This probably applies to all similar programs but the one I have is System Mechanic, which is designed to 'Fix & Speed Up Your PC Automatically'. It optimizes the hard disk and checks it for errors, works on the registry, etc.
(It's far from the only one out there - I'd advise anyone to look around - but it seems to do a fairly neat job.)
I remember reading somewhere that I should uninstall NT before running such a program. Is this really necessary? (As you can imagine, it's a bit of a nuisance having to uninstall every couple of weeks).
I saw a thread just now about a problem with NT caused by Windows Check Disk ("NT7 disappears after ChkDsk run") so I thought I'd ask this not unrelated question.
