    historical data - what timezone

    I have a simulator license from my FXCM account. In the Account Setup, I chose "download historical data from ninjatrader servers". What is the GMT of this historical data?

    Hello Stearno,

    Thank you for your post.

    The timestamp on the data is native to the servers, however this is converted by NinjaTrader to represent your PC Clock time.

    Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

      Hi,

      another question on this subject, if allowed;

      If i import data from a third party website, do i order it in;

      exchange time
      GMT
      or specific to the instrument/market; GMT-7 / GMT-5 etc

      I know when importing it, i have to use UTC, see helpfile.

      Thanks in advance,

      Rob

        Thanks for the reply, Cal. What happens if I change my PC's Clock timezone?

        For example, let us say I am living in +4 GMT and my PC is set to +4 GMT Timezone. I download all the historical data.

        Then, I move to the US and in -4 GMT timezone. I download the latest week worth of historical data. What will happen? Will it change the previous data or will it show a huge gap in price on the chart as it just sandwiched two different timezones together.

        Reason I ask about timestamps is is because FXCM has changed their server time to be US Eastern timezone. I am backtesting a strategy on a PC's setting of +4 GMT timezone and determined the best trading hours are 11-18 hours. I needed to be sure I know the timezone of the historical data, so I know what hours to trade when I go live.

        Thanks.

          stearno, if you change your PC clock timezone the data already downloaded would not be changed over. It will be timestamped only when you download it. If you need to change the timezone, then a redownload of the data would be needed.
