    'Connection Lost' announcement delay

    Hi folks

I've just timed the lag between the broadband connection being turned off and the 'Connection Lost' announcement being made. I knew it was long, but it's longer than I thought: 2m 45s !!!

If the broadband goes down and orders have been entered, it goes without saying that the broker needs to be contacted as soon as possible.

Why is the announcement delayed by so much? Why can't it be almost instantaneous?

Is there another way of being notified sooner?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

    Hello arbuthnot,

    Thanks for your post.

The disconnect report time is designed with in the connections API and there is not a way to modify this.

Thanks, Brandon, for the explanation but it seems strange the system can't react quicker.

Would anyone know of a gizmo or some software that I could buy or download that would issue an audible alert as soon as the broadband goes down?

That's kind of hard to detect instantly.

You could write an indicator that http:// requests a status page from your cable modem and displays information. .

          Thanks very much, sledge.

Unfortunately, I'd have no idea how to go about coding up such an indicator.

Could you possibly give me some pointers or maybe you know some online resource that would help me?

          Thanks in advance.

I searched for some code I thought I had and can't find it.

search google for : asp net c# http get request

find your cable modem's http address, and find a page that has your modem's status
            request that page.
parse it to get the status.

            use with NT timer request...

I'm not sure what a cable modem would do if flooded with requests before finishing.

I'll follow your advice and see what I can come up with.

              Cheers.

This would only handle disconnect at your modem, meaning less for the Internet having issues elsewhere.

I was only chasing this down at the time to get my bonding channel signals strength which was spotty and causing drop outs. .

NT7 being single threaded could become slow and unresponsive if your cable modem doesn't respond and the indicator is waiting for a response from it.

I wonder if JimW is his "status of my shared indicators" thread has anything (i know he had something for timestamps being off )

                  Again, sledge, much obliged.
