    Connecting to Yahoo for historical data

    I'm trying to backtest my strategy's using Yahoo historical data. The only thing is I do not know how to load historical data using NinjaTrader. I looked at the tuturial to no avail.

    Just connect to YAHOO and backtest the desired timeframe on the strategy analyzer. NT then will pull the required data.

      Thanks for the quick reply.

      I did that and when I backtest and stock no information is posted. I have the backup market feed connection set to Market Replay Connection.

      I'll hit backtest on Citigroup for example using a sample strategy and nothing will happen, I did the same for my custom strat. and still nothing.

        Start simple as possible to eliminate potential issues.
        - set up your YAHOO connection without any backup feed
        - connect to YAHOO
        - add MSFT to your default instrument list (Tools->Instrument manager)
        - pull up a daily chart on MSFT (File->New Chart)

        -> chart should populate, meaning your YAHOO connection works as expected

        Now add your custom stock (Tools->Instrument manager) by applying the correct stock mapping (please see docs). If YAHOO has data for that instrument (please check on their website), then you will e.g. able to pull up a chart for that instrument and see it populated too.

        If then on the startegy analyzer you still don't get no backtested trades, then your strategy simply did not trigger any trades during the backtested period.

          Everything that's in bold I can't seem to do. The charts won't populate. Does the market have to be open?

            No need for market being open. Everything here works as expected. I just tested. Not sure what you're experiencing.

              I've done what you've instructed and the MSFT chart comes up blank. I'm using a sim account and I can connect to Yahoo. No charts.

                Please try Tools->Options->Misc->Reset instruments.

                Also: double check that that you're trying to load DAILY charts and not intarday charts like 1-minute or so.
