Going long and short for futures spread

    Hello,

Using the method of simultaneously going long and short in this NinjaTrader Ecosystem video below, is that how I could create a futures spread in NinjaTrader?

    Hello i2w8am9ii2,

Unfortunately exchange traded spreads are not supported in NinjaTrader. We support futures, equities, forex and indices only in NinjaTrader.

However it is possible using NinjaScript to plot the difference between 2 instruments in a chart. You would need to program a custom indicator that will plot the difference of two instruments. Please see the link below for more information on this subject.

There is a custom created spread indicator available on our forum. It is listed under Version 7 Indicator as "Spread".

      Hi Jason,

      Thanks for your reply.

I'm not looking for NinjaTrader to help me 'analyze' exchange traded futures spreads. I have another tool for doing that. I only want to be able to 'enter' two futures positions in NinjaTrader after I have done my analysis elsewhere.

As the NinjaTrader Ecosystem video shows (but does not specifically say), would I be able to use Chart Trader and a SuperDOM to create the entry for a futures spread?

      Please let me know,

Please note that you cannot really have a long and a short position simultaneously. The instructions you refer will show virtual positions. The entry buy and sell are paired as a trade and later on the exit buy and sell will be paired as a trade.

          Hi Jason,

          Thanks for your reply message.

I don't plan to trade Exchange Traded Futures Spreads, but rather, Synthetic Futures Spreads, such as Corn and Soybeans, etc.

So I don't need to enter both trades simultaneously. That being the case, can I use the method shown on the video of using Chart Trader and a SuperDOM to create the entry for a futures spread in NinjaTrader?

            Hello*i2w8am9ii2,

You can place orders on multiple instruments.

You will not need to follow the instructions in the video when trading different instruments.

The video is in regards to placing orders on the same instrument.*

              Hi Christopher,

              Thanks for the info.

So I would be able to go long and short in different futures contracts and thus create a Synthetic Futures Spread entry?
