Data base instrument removal for backup

I have a remnant of ES tick data somewhere that results in a 300 MB addition to the NT backup archive file. I once did some ES tick work, and expected an increase, but not now, as I have deleted all ES instruments from my charts. I've looked in the NT data base folder, and find no large files, so it's a mystery how it is getting into the backup file.

Is there a formal process of some sort for removing unwanted instruments from the data base?

Also, it would be useful as an archive option to not save the raw data. I tried unchecking several of the likely suspects, but the subsequent backup file did not reduce in size. Is there any guidance from this angle?
