    Broadband alternatives

    Hi everyone

I'm having a lot of serious issues with my broadband supplier - Virgin Media here in the UK.

Quite often my downstream goes from 150 down to 5 or 1 .. or less.

I'm looking at a backup data supply. I may be able to get a 3G dongle which would deliver a speed of about 6. (Well, 6 is better than one or less...)

Is 6Mbps a sufficient to run NT7 live? If not, what would be the minimum?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your post!

While this speed would likely be sufficient for receiving data, we never recommend using a 3G or WiFI connection when using NinjaTrader. Instead, we recommend using a hardwired broadband connection.

The reason for this is that WiFi and 3G connections are far more likely to connection issues and excessive latency. This would be more a matter of the connection's overall health, not it's speed.

Let me know if I may help further.

      Thanks very much, Drew.

I'm not using NT7 (for the moment) to place trades - just to give me alerts. Using a dongle, etc., is better than nothing if there's no alternative to my my normal hard-wired connection, and I really do need to place those trades (through the broker's platform) if at all possible.

Didn't I read somewhere that NT7 needs a downstream speed of at least 6Mbps to work? (I've taken on board the other factors you raised.)

      Thanks.

        Hello,

        Thank you for your reply!

Not necessarily. NinjaTrader should run as expected on any high speed hardwired internet connection.
