Paint bar and Volume ratio indicators?

    Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for the following indicators and can't seem to find them or something similar in NT.

    1: Paint Bar

Price > Avg paints any bar whose price is greater than its average price. The Price input specifies the type of price (that is, High, Low, Close, or any numeric expression) used in the PaintBar. The Length input specifies the number of bars used to calculate the average of the Price input. Using the default values, Price > Avg paints any bar whose closing price (specified by the Price input) is greater than its 14-bar closing average.

This PaintBar study identifies price trends. For example, if the close is greater than its average close, it might indicate the beginning of an uptrend or the continuation of an existing uptrend.

    2: Voume ratio

    Market Synopsis

The Volume Ratio indicator calculates an exponential moving average of the ratio between up and down volume. The exponential average is then plotted as an oscillator around a zero line.

Volume can provide insight into the strength or weakness of a price trend. This indicator plots positive values above the zero line, and negative below. A positive value suggests there is enough market support to continue to drive price activity in the direction of the current trend. A negative value suggests there is a lack of support and prices may begin to become stagnant or reverse.

Does NT have these indicators under another name?

    Cheers,

    Hi PKFFW:

    Thank you for your post.

    1. Paint Bars can be accomplished via customized programming using NinjaScript (based on C# programming).

Click here for instructions on custom indicator development using NinjaScript:

    2. NinjaTrader offers the following pre-built indicators that are similar to what you are looking for...

    Power Volume indicators:

    VolumeUpDown.

Click here on how to add indicators to your charts:

Your specific indicator can be programmed into NinjaScript by utilizing the code of the existing pre-built indicators and adding your own code to form your personalized indicator.

If you are a non-programmer, I would suggest contacting one of our Certified NinjaScript consultants for assistance.

        Hi again,

After contacting a few certified coders I am told that the volume ratio indicator uses bid/ask volume data. Ninja trader does not give access to historical bid/ask volume data and therefore this indicator will only plot against a live or simulated feed.

Are there any plans in the works to give access to historical bid/ask volume data?

        Regards,
        PKFFW

          Thank you for your post.

          1) You could build this as a custom indicator.

          2) Please look at these volume indicators:

            Hello Jessica,

Yes, building the custom indicator is what I am referring to. Unfortunately the indicator uses the bid/ask volume and NT does not give access to historical bid/ask volume. Therefore the indicator will only work in real time with a live data feed.

I was just wondering if there is any plan for NT to have access to historical bid/ask volume in the future? If there is not, may I make an official suggestion that this feature be included in future versions.

            Regards,
            PKFFW

                Hi everyone,

I got an email from someone called Glen that I believe is a member of this forum asking some questions. Unfortunately before I could reply I had computer problems and it got permanently deleted.

So if you are reading this, please pm me or email me again.

                Cheers,
