    Error in order size

    I'm using Ninja Trade Brokerage with Continuum.

    double myAccountSize = GetAccountValue(AccountItem.CashValue);
    double sharesToBuy = myAccountSize / Close[0];
    int quantityToBuy = (int)sharesToBuy;

    My account is $1000, and I'm using the above code. Ninja Trader says I'm trying to make an order of $2000. Am I not seeing something? Is there some weird broker rule I'm not aware of? Thanks.

    Hello CriticalMind,

    Thanks for your post.

    What instrument did you apply this to that produces those results?

        Hello CriticalMind,

        Thanks for your reply.

        The instrument RB has an intraday margin requirement of $2000.00 usd. You would not be able to purchase 1 contract unless you had > $2000.00 usd in your account.

            Hello,

            Thanks for your reply.

            Please go to the Ninjatrader website (www[dot]NinjaTrader[dot]com) , scroll to the bottom of the home page, in the section "Trade Futures" left click on "Margin".

              Alright. So now, I am using 6N, which has a limit of 1000.

              I am getting the following error message:
              Ninja Trader Continuum, Insufficient margin
              Available margin: USD 1000
              Used margin USD 1000
              Total portfolio margin including this order: USD2000
              This order increases margin by USD 1000 affected Order Sell 1 Limit @ 0.7823

              It did place a short order of quantity 1 apparently, but besides that I have no other open positions so I shouldn't have any used margin.

              Sorry to be such trouble over something goofy like this.

                Hello CriticalMind,

                Thanks for your post.

                Please contact the brokerage directly to discuss this as they can best provide clarity on trading at margin. They can be reached by phone directly or e-mail. The contact info can be found on the same website, at the bottom, in the section "Contact us". On the "Contact us" page, look for Brokerage Support and call them on the 1-800 number or e-mail them directly at the e-mail address listed there.
