How to add forex instruments to intrument list

Hello,
I am trying to add Forex instruments to NT7 for FXCM.

I am however unable to find any information about it as there are only general guides on how to add an instrument, which however do not give details about the specific information about symbol ticker etc, that is related to the forex instruments.

That information will need to come from your broker or data provider as this is connection specific information.

Who are you connected to? This is displayed by green on lower left corner of the Control Center window.

What is the instrument that you are trying to setup?

I'll research and see if I can find the provider's website with the symbol list.

As already specified in my initial post, I am connected to FXCM and I am trying to add spot forex instrument pairs.

I was able to find information about the ticker symbol/map of the pais in FXCM, however there is absolutely no information on all the additional settings (such as which exchange needs to be selected in order for the instruments to work).

Needless to say, there is no FXCM exchange in the list.

FXCM and not NinjaTrader FXCM got it.

What is the instrument that you are trying to setup?

(For forex the exchange is generally set with Default only, the currency type is generally UsDollar. I wouldn't be able to give you the point / tick size without the instrument)


Also, I think it is important that you understand there is no exchange for forex. With forex there is no centralized exchange servers for the orders to rest on. Instead, your broker is using a specific bank to trade directly to other banks in the world without any centralized exchange. Because of this, volume is either not reported or is the volume of the specific brokerage.

The connection is NinjaTrader FXCM.

I am trying to add GBPUSD but am unable to do so.

Can you please provide me the specific instructions on how to do it?

Hello nikolaalx,

GBPUSD comes pre-set up in NinjaTrader and the settings that are pre-mapped will work for FXCM or NinjaTrader FXCM.

Do not adjust the settings for this already existing instrument in NinjaTrader 7.

If you have changed the settings or removed this instrument, then ensure the instrument is fully removed and then reset instruments. Resetting instruments will restore the instrument with the original settings provided by NinjaTrader when NinjaTrader 7 is first installed.

To delete the instrument:
Click Tools -> Instrument Manager... -> in the Name field type GBPUSD -> click Search
In the results, select each result that is returned one by one and click the Delete button. (There will be a delay as the instrument is removed from the database)

To reset instruments:

1. Disconnect from any connections
2. Click Tools -> Options... -> select the Data tab
3. Click the Reset Instruments button -> Restart NinjaTrader
