    storing historical data

I have gigabytes of data in text files on hundreds of instruments going back years. I'd like to upload it all through the Historical Data Manager for safe keeping. Is NT appropriate for storing large amounts of data like this? Would I run into performance issues?

Importing historical data moves the information into the relevant folders in the Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > db folder.

Simply importing it should not affect performance, however, if you then choose to access this by having a very high "days to load" setting it can affect load times.

Here is a link with more information on importing historical data:

Here are some performance tips to keep in mind:

I would also recommend backing up your data at a location which is not on your PC (thumb drive, cloud storage, etc.) in case of a loss of your PC's data. You can create backups of NinjaTrader using the built-in backup feature:

Can I upload continuous contract data? Would the file name be something like "ES ##-##"?

And I read somewhere that you can't trade off continuous contract data, but can I backtest using them?

        Hello YD777,

This would be correct. Continuous data would have ##-## rather than a specific month and year (ie 09-16) and you would be able to backtest, but not trade live, over continuous data.

Please, let us know if we may be of further assistance.
