    instrument not supported by repository

I'm trying to import the text file 'SPI 03-08' into NT, but the log returns "Instrument is not supported by repository". I've checked that the instrument (SPI) exists in my instrument manager, and it does.
I've also checked the formatting of the file and all seems okay.

Why am I unable to import?

    - please make sure you are on latest 6.5.1000.5
    - please add the SPI 03-08 to your default instrument list and try again

      Thanks Dierk. It worked.

I'm just wondering why I need to add the specific contract (including month) to the "default instruments list" in order to import historical tick?

If one wishes to open a chart etc then he could simply select "future" and manually type in contract, and contract month.

This contracted needed to be in the DB (which is wasn't). This was achieved by adding it to (any) instrument list.

I am having the same problem here. I am uploading several years of historical data and I have them subdivided by contract and in the right format as well. Right now I am uploading data for ES from 2002, March contract. My file is name ES 03-02.txt
I created a new list in the instrument manager called ES and added a new instrument ES ##-## since that does not exist in the Expiry list anymore... and I guess it does not understand that because it did not work...

            Hello,

            Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately I don't follow your question.

1.) Are you able to import the ES 03-02 data?

2.) What are you attempting to do with the ES ##-##?

              No

2.) What are you attempting to do with the ES ##-##?

Well, if I understand well I have to add the symbol I want to import to A list, correct? The default one or any other, right? I created my own list and tried to add the symbol ES 03-02, which should be the ES contract for March 2002. Now, 03-02 is not anymore in the drop down list called "Expiry". So, I added "ES ##-##" which I thought was a generic one for the non-existing contracts... and it did not work.

I added a screen shot of what I did for you to see. Hope that clarifies it.

                Hi,

The name of the file you are imported must be the same as the instrument in NinjaTrader.
Try renaming your .txt file to ES ##-## and try the import. The data should show up using the ES ##-## in NinjaTrader.
More information on importing here: http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...V6/Import.html

Open a chart for ES ##-## and it should populate with this data.

there is no ES ##-## listed, doI have to add one in instrument manager, or should there already be one there?

In the Instrument Manager, when you select ES, you will see a month drop down towards the bottom. In this dropdown, the last item should be ##-##.

Also, you can just type ES ##-## in an open chart and press enter.
