    alert using a phone call

There are many ways to notify when a condition is met.
However one is missing, which is making a phone call.

Im thinking of using a working around for this, but running out of idea.

Have anyone thought about it before?

are you calling a cell phone?

why not just send an email to your phone. This is what i do.

Interesting suggestion. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As mrlogik has mentioned, the closest thing we have is sending an email and then you can use your Blackberry and see the email.

additionally, if you wanted to make a phone call, you would have to have a phone modem attached to you're computer, or some digital phone subscription / software that can be accessed by .NET to place such a call. A little too complicated. If you can't do an email I think the next best thing which would require some coding would be to send a text message to your cell phone.

Well, the reason is my greedy cell phone provider changed the way we receive this email through cell phone. Now I have to pay a fee to receive such message. My provider is rogers in canada...

mrlok, can you explain a little bit on the way to use modem and .NET to make phone call?

What software and hardware do you need to do that?

I have no experience with this so I can really only give you ideas.

You would probably have to have a modem and enough knowledge to program in .NET to pick up the phone, dial a number, etc. You may want to google something like .NET phone modem, so on.

For those who are interested, I found a list of cell phone service providers that will convert an email to a text message and send it to your phone.

The list can be found here

If that site goes down at some point here are the major providers:

                  AT&T (from: 20, msg: 160, total: 160)
Enter your phone number. Goes to [email protected]
Sprint PCS (from: 15, msg: 160, total: 160)
Enter your 10-digit phone number. Goes to @messaging.sprintpcs.com
Sprint PCS - Short Mail (from: 15, msg: 1000, total: 1000)
Enter your phone number. Goes to @sprintpcs.com
Verizon Wireless (from: 34, msg: 140, total: 140)
Enter your 10-digit phone number. Messages are sent via email to [email protected].
Verizon Wireless (formerly Airtouch) (from: 20, msg: 120, total: 120)
Enter your phone number. Messages are sent to [email protected]. This is ONLY for former AirTouch customers. Verizon Wireless customers should use Verizon Wireless instead.
                  Verizon Wireless (myairmail.com) (from: 34, msg: 140, total: 140)
Enter your phone number. Messages are sent via to [email protected].
Virgin Mobile Canada (from: 20, msg: 140, total: 140)
Enter your phone number. Messages are sent to [email protected].
Virgin Mobile USA (from: 20, msg: 160, total: 160)
Enter your phone number. Messages are sent to [email protected].

Happy texting; remember that you pay per text!

We use Asterisk http://www.asterisk.org/ for all of our telephony needs. There is a huge community base also.

Again, probably the easiest/cheapest way is to send an email, or your SMS email address.

On this topic, I would like to see IM protocol support (e.g., jabber, aim, yahoo) and/or micro-blogging (e.g., twitter). Hey, you can even add your sig for exposure (sent by NinjaTrader.com)

Tightface: Asterisk can let ninja trader send call alert directly? Or there is a module that work with ninjatrader already?

Yes, IM, blog alert or more other method is good.
They should consider these and other method. Useful indeed.
