    Understanding Log files

    Hello,
I need to know what the numbers after datetime and before log message mean.
I'm looking for this information in ninjatrader documentation but there is none.

I'd like some help, please. Thank you

The format of the log files themselves are undocumented.

The user interface for understanding the log files is thru the Log tab
    in the Control Center.

The information you see in the Log tab is actually coming from the
active log file in "NinjaTrader 8/log" folder.

The numbers after the date & time are (probably) the 'priority' and
'category' for the message, but, like I said, the format of the log
    file itself is not documented.

      Hello lismartin and bltdavid,

      Thanks for your post.

'category' for the message, but, like I said, the format of the log
      file itself is not documented.
Close, these are undocumented, but they represent the LogLevel of a log message and the Category (Connection, NinjaScript, Order, Default, etc.)

LogLevels are noted in Log() documentation, and you can test them out to see how they appear in the first column after the timestamp.

Thanks bltdavid and Jim for your answer.

        I don't have a question, I have a requirement to make.
Please make documentation for this is information available on ninja trader support guides.

Jim please let me know if I have to open a ticket in order to get this done.
        Thanks.

          Hello lismartin,

Could you elaborate on your requirement? What is unclear in the log file and what obstacle are you trying to overcome?

We do not have a pending feature request to start tracking interest behind making the log publicly documented, but we could start one if you like. Your criteria for the requirement will be useful to note with that request.

Most items in the logs are self explanatory, or can be explained if you ask us specific questions. Their main intention is for us to review in our support inquiries. Identifying errors in a log for a NinjaScript developer to review is relevant, but these run time errors are well known with NinjaScript developers, and we do assist answering questions on what errors mean and how you can debug them.

Trace files include more information about the steps NinjaTrader makes, which would not really be within scope to document publicly.
