    System requirement for Backtesting

    Hi

I'm currently trading futures with IB and considering the option to use NT8 for charting and but also strategy development and implementation.

    but

I have an iMac late 2012 (+2 additional displays)
3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB L3 cache
    32GB RAM
    HD 3TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

would be ok (good) to run NT8 on a VMware or Parallels for:
charting and backtesting (even more important) with system that I have? (I know Mac is not supported but I guess there is some common knowledge in the forum...I hope).
Backtesting at this stage is the key element for me.

If I understand correctly everything would be run locally not in the cloud isn't?

If not with the iMac. Would a good Windows (TBD) laptop be able to perform the same backtesting?

    Many thanks
    M

    Hello,

    Thanks for your post.

As you pointed out, using a Mac would not be necessarily supported so it would be harder to tell how this resource allocation may work when using a virtual machine. We are also unable to make recommendations to trading methods, including about hardware. However, I have provided a link to our PC System requirements, which does have some PC-specific recommendations for the software itself.

I will also leave this thread open for other users to leave their feedback regarding this item.

      backtesting

      Hi Drew,

sure. I might expressed myself not clearly. Question was more like: how heavy for the hardware is to run a backtest?

I saw before the recommendations on your website...but then also read of people having to dig deep on their CPU to run meaningful backtest.

Hopefully some other user will be able to give practical indication.

      Thanks
      M
