Futures Trading Hours

I day trade GC, ES & CL. ES & CL each have two trading hour schedules:
CL: Nymex Energy RTH & Nymex Metals Energy ETH.
ES: CME US Index Futures ETH & RTH.

I don't understand the GC schedules:
I assume the appropriate ETH schedule is Nymex Metals-Energy ETH, but there are five additional RTH schedules:
Nymex Metals RTH1 through RTH5.

Could you explain.

Thank you for your note.

The correct RTH schedule for Gold futures would be Nymex Metals-Energy RTH2, the others would not be intended for GC.

I'm looking for the correct Data Series for trading CL oil futures. I want only to show the RTH session. What would that be in the Data Series drop-down?

Thank you for the message.

The CL is going to be labeled as that, CL.

• You can use the Instrument Selection box as a search menu to find your desired instrument if you are ever having trouble:

If you only want to see the RTH Session, then choose that specific Trading Hours Template under Properties > Time frame > Trading Hours, after selecting the CL.


If you are not sure which Trading Hours template to use, then it is up to you to go through all of the options and choose the one that is closest or make your own that displays the hours you want.

Thank you for the message.

The Trading Hours template you choose is completely up to you. If those are the only hours of the day you want to see plotted on your chart then go with that Trading Hours template.


The Trading Hours template just dictates what hours of the day are plotted and showing on the chart. They don't actually prevent you from placing a trade outside of those hours if you tried.

• If you tried to place a Market Order during the ETH, the order would go through as long as the market is active.

I have the ES on a chart and it is showing Extended Trading Hours. I want to be able to switch back and forth between the extended hours and the regular trading hours. How do I do that ?

Thank you for the message.

Right-click on the chart > Click Data Series > Under Properties > Time frame > Trading Hours, switch between your desired Trading Hours Templates and click OK.

If you want to see them both at the same time, create a 2nd chart or add a 2nd data series so you can have the ETH selected in one chart and RTH selected for the other.

• Otherwise, you will have to go back into those settings and just switch it back and forth as desired.
