    Index symbols - ^NDX not responding, what is best for Nasdaq

    I'm using the market analyzer window to keep an eye on the overall market.
    ^DJIA ^SP500 ^VIX all work

    ^NDX does not respond.

    What is the correct symbol for the Nasdaq index?

    ^NDX is the correct symbol for the Nasdaq 100 index, however, if you're not receiving real-time data it is likely that your connection is not enabled for real-time data for ^NDX.

    So I may accurately assist you, please answer all of the following questions:
    • What version of NinjaTrader 8 are you using? Please provide the entire version number. This can be found under Help -> About (Example: 8.0.?.?)
    • Who are you connected to? This is displayed in green on lower left corner of the Control Center window.
    • Do you receive an error on screen? Are there errors on the Log tab of the Control Center? If so, what do these errors report?
    • Have you confirmed with your broker/data provider that you're enabled for real-time ^NDX data? If not, please do so now

      So this is weird... now the DJIA SP500 and VIX won't populate.

      How were those working on Friday and today there is zero data? I'm using Kinetick and IB data.

      v 8.0.18.1 64-bit

        In what order are you connecting?

        Do you expect to receive data for these symbols from Kinetick, from Interactive Brokers, or from either/both?

          I put Kinetick as the primary data source, then IB.

          I do not have the data thru Kinetick, so guessing IB does provide it since it was there Friday? Is there a way to force it thru the IB data to see for sure?

            Disconnect from all data feeds then connect to Interactive Brokers first. Here is a link with more information on multiple connections in NinjaTrader 8:

              But does that make IB my primary data source for charts then too? I added Kinetick due to the lag on IB data on charts.

                Yes, if you choose to not define your preferred connections, this would mean all data is coming from Interactive Brokers. Please visit the link in my previous post to learn more about how to set preferred connections.

                  I have preferred connections as I said.

                  Kinetick is #1 b/c I want that data first.

                  IB is #2 as a backup; and/or give me the data that Kinetick won't.
                  • I need Kinetick data for charts.
                  • I want IB data to fill in the holes, ie index symobls.

                      Today's update: the index data is there. I didn't have time to reconfigure the data sources.
                      Friday it was there, Monday it was gone and today (Tues) it's working again. So clearly I am paying for this data (assuming thru IB) and it can work if it feels like it.

                      That's neat.

                          Interactive Brokers has a max symbol limit that can be requested during one connection session. Is it possible that you're cycling through 100+ instruments during one connection session?

                            Patrick - I guess that is possible since it's working (for now) today. But maybe I am reaching that 100 symbol max on some days and don't realize it. Is there a way to check how many requests I've made? TY

                              I am not aware of a way to check the current symbol request usage. I would recommend contacting Interactive Brokers support to see if there is way to check your current data requests when using a third party platform (NinjaTrader).
