    Error: No risk setting defined for instrument

    I am getting an error message when trying to place an order. Please see attached screen shoot. Thanks for your help. Jamie

    Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

    You may resolve this by either updating the risk template for your Sim101 account or, if you do not mind losing trade history for the account, resetting it entirely.

    To set a risk template for an account, go to the Accounts tab in the Control Center, right-click on the Sim account, and select "Edit account." Next to "Risk" ensure that a template is selected; you may use the Default NinjaTrader Brokerage template if you do not wish to create your own.

    To create a new risk template, you would go to Tools->Risk from the Control Center. In the left-hand side you would select "add" to configure new risk settings, then manually add each instrument you wish to be on the template as well as the instrument restrictions. Alternatively, you may copy the NinjaTrader Brokerage template and edit the instruments (add a new one, or edit existing settings).

    Here is some more information about working with Risk Templates:



    Finally, resetting a simulation account will clear all historical trade data from this account but may resolve this error you are receiving.
    Please follow the instructions below to reset a simulation account.
    • From the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the Accounts tab
    • Right click on your simulation account and select 'Edit Account'
    • Press the "Reset" button

      So I'm getting the same error message but in playback. I don't have the options to edit or create or to set risk parameters in the playback101 sim account.

        Hello,

        Thank you for the post.

        The 'Sim101' account automatically converts to the Playback account when you connect to that connection type.

        Modifying Sim101 would result in changes in your Playback connection.

          Until today, I was able to submit Orders to Sim101 on the NinjaTrader-facilitated Coinbase Connection.

          I Updated the Risk Templates in Database Management, and now I cannot submit any Orders, always receiving the error noted above.

          I have tried Resetting the Sim101 account, restarting NinjaTrader, deleting and re-adding the Coinbase Connection -- none of these has re-enabled the ability to submit these Orders.

          I have never previously changed/set any Risk Template for the Instruments and they had traded without issue.

          Most grateful for advice on how to remedy this.

            Same problem as post #5

            This is the second Sunday in a row that NT has had some problem I did not cause or change settings. This is a very expensive program to not be reliable.

              Your directions aren't working. I added a sim account that is a duplicate of the sim101 account and it works fine. Why does your Sim101 not work after using NT defaults and resetting the account?

                I am having the same problem with STOCKS and it's ridiculous. What should the "risk limits" be for a stock? ....

                This is another reason why I will always tell my trader friends that Ninjatrader is "by programmers for programmers". A sim account should be easy to use.

                  Hello Everyone,

                  Thank you for your posts about the Risk Template error.

                  We are aware of this error, and some steps to resolve it were taken over the weekend during routine maintenance.

                  That being said, one more step will be needed on your part to completely resolve.

                  Please first close NinjaTrader.

                  Next, navigate to (My) Documents->NinjaTrader 8->Templates->Risk.

                  Delete the 'NinjaTrader Brokerage Default' template, and the blank template. Here is a screenshot with both of those templates listed:
                  Now, you may restart NinjaTrader and the error should be resolved going forward.

                  Please let us know if you have any further questions.

                    I've been getting the same problem trying to trade EUR/USD. Deleting those files hasn't resolved the issue

                      I continue to get the "No risk setting defined for instrument" while in playback. I have tried all the recommended steps but nothing fixes the problem.

                        I fixed my issue. You can’t add or modify the templates from right clicking account. Go tools>risk>add and find your instrument to add. I left everything at default zero

                          I just got the same message. This is quite annoying. Didn't do any changes the whole week.
                          I am going to delete the templates tonight.
                          There are currently a lot of issues with NT. That does not really help the trust in the system (e.g. IB Connection, unable to trade Futures with the same ticker but different sizes, etc...)
                          Hope that is getting better.

                              Is there a solution for this problem? I rebooted NT8 this morning, and now getting that error!
