    NinjaScript Editor Does Not Retain Location When Switching Tabs

    I always have a number of documents open in the editor. When I switch tabs to check something in a different file, and then switch back, the original doc is scrolled to a different location instead of retaining the prior location. I do not need to do anything in other tab, just switching docs causes the issue. This is extremely annoying and makes the editor almost unusable for larger projects.

    The only work around is to have multiple windows, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having tabs.

    Please fix this.

            Hi!

            I have the same issue with the current version of NT8. I have opened Strategy1 and Strategy2 in the Ninjascript Editor in different Tabs. I klick on line 50 in Strategy1. Then I go to Strategy2. When I go back to Strategy1 I find myself in a completely different line (so not 50). Can you please fix this again? It's super annoying!

              May I confirm you are using 8.0.26.1?

              Open a new NinjaScript Editor window. Following the exact steps shown in the video, is the behavior different?

                  My unasked for two cents... Use Visual Studio, the Community version is free and works great with NinjaTrader 8. I'm successfully using VS 2022. I keep a NT Editor window open with no files open so that when I save in VS, compilation happens immediately.

                  For a non-IDE software, the NT8 Editor is quite powerful, imo. However, if you're a developer, you'll love the rich features of Visual Studio in managing code, multiple files, debugging, etc. While the NT8 Editor is good, Visual Studio is so much better. It is worth the learning curve without any doubt.

                    Thanks, StealthM93. As someone who already has Visual Studio Professional, there are still many reasons to bring the NT8 Editor up to the latest version. No matter what other editors are out there (and there are more than just the VS suite), people do and will continue to use the NinjaScript Editor, and it needs to be at (or at least very close to) the currently distributed version from Actipro. This is simple software maintenance to keep software up-to-date to fix bugs and improve capabilities, but it also caters for those who, for whatever reason, choose to use it. As it happens, even with VS, it is my goto editor for most things in NinjaScript.

                      Ok there are really tons of threads on that matter and it seems that this problem keeps popping up. I had the previous version when I posted my problem. I updated to the last version and still have the same problem. Is there a way to solve this problem without loosing all my data?

                      For now, I will open them in separate windows thanks!

                          Hi Chelsea!

                          When I follow your steps the problem surprisingly doesn't occur. I think it has to do with the saved workspace when opening NT. When the Editor loads from the workspace I saved before when opening NT I have the problem. If I open a new editor window and open the strategies manually the problem doesn't occur. Are you able to reproduce?

                            I really appreciate that tip of the extra step.

                            The scripts have to be open for editing, then saved in the workspace and restored to reproduce the behavior.

                            I have reported the behavior to our development.

                            Once I have a tracking ID for the issue I will post in this thread.

                              I've received tracking ID # NTEIGHT-15440 for this issue.

                              As new releases of NinjaTrader become available, please check the release notes for this ID (just the number part).


                              Once the ID is listed for a release, please update and confirm the behavior is resolved.
