    Opening future Future contracts

    Hi Guys,

im trying to open a future Oil Future Contract in Ninjatrader 8 connected to Kinetik.
For CL 01-20 CL 02-20 CL 03-20 ... CL 12-20 it works perfectly. But if I want to look at CL 01-21 I get an error "invalid instrument".
How can I open Futures that are more than 1 Year in the Future that are already traded?

Thanks a lot for your support!

    Hello Branpo,

    Thanks for posting.

You would need to manually add in the contract month and rollover date to view a contract that far in the future. To do this, please follow the instructions below:

    - Go to Control Center > Tools > Instruments and search for CL.

    - Highlight Crude Oil futures and click edit.

    - Scroll to the bottom of the instrument editor and click on the rollovers to add a new contract month.

    - Click add and set the contract month to 01-21 if it isn't already, and set the rollover date to 11/15/2020. You should now be able to load data for this contract from Kinetick.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

      Thank you very Much Tyler!
Is there a List somewhere where I can see the rollover dates for the future contracts 02-21 03-21 and so on?

The rollover dates in the platform are somewhat arbitrary, and not all traders will choose to roll over on the same day. For contracts this far in the future, your best bet may be to look at the last traded date for the prior contract on the CME group website and set your rollover a week before that date. The publicly-available link below shows the product calendar for CL:

For important dates in the more immediate future, you can check our trade desk calendar:

The NinjaTrader risk team evaluates market conditions in real-time and reserves the right to adjust intraday margins in accordance with market volatility.

if i dont change the rollover date and keep it to 15.12.2020 will it update someday if it is the Date on which Ninjatrader would import the Future anyway?

If you got to Tools > Options > Database Management, there is an Update Instruments button that can be used to update expiries and rollovers. As new contracts are added to the instrument database, this option may be used to match your contract definitions to those in the database.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.
