    NT8 (SMA) Moving Average Values <> NT7 ??

Back again. Still trying to migrate from NT7 to NT8. Still running into issues. Latest is the SMA indicator seems to be working for some shorter MovAve periods, but is diverging on some longer periods. I've attached the following screenshot examples to show the diff, using a 2500 period MovAve on an NFLX 5min chart, looking back 1500 days. On NT7, I don't need a 1500 lookback, but I cranked it up on these two examples just to eliminate insufficient data as a cause. As far as I can tell, I'm using the same definitions on both NT7/NT8. Both of these charts are on the -same- box(Win10Pro), using the latest cut of IQFeed for data, so no diff on data source or which box, etc.

On the NT7 shots, ignore the the DIS-X label; this is the -same- NFLX 5min chart as on NT8.

Also note that the bars on each chart appear to be the same, which I'd expect, using the same data feed.

You might try duping each of these charts on your end, and see if you get the same or diff numbers than I do. If so, be sure to use IQFeed as your data feed.

I've been using long MovAves on NT7 for > 2 yrs and as far as I know, the data/values are correct. Therefore, given a choice, I like NT8 to match NT7, NOT the other way around.

So, what's going on, what's wrong, what am I possibly missing, what needs to be changed on either my end or NT's end, or both??

Well, screw this - obviously some limitation on uploads, with NO messages, so I'll do ONE shot per post.

                Hello AMATX,

                Thank you for your note.

So I may ensure my testing is identical, what version of NinjaTrader are you using on both sides? Please provide the entire version number. This can be found under Help -> About (Example: 7.0.1000.? or 8.0.?.?)

I look forward to your reply.

                    Hello AMATX,

                    Thank you for your reply.

From looking at the screenshots you provided I am seeing two different instruments being loaded between NinjaTrader 7 and NinjaTrader 8.

Inside of NinjaTrader 7 it looks like you are loading 'DIS-X' and in NinjaTrader 8 you are loading 'NFLX'.

Please confirm that you are using the same instrument in your charts when comparing indicator levels.

Please let me know if I could be of any further assistance.

I specifically mentioned in my post to ignore the 'DIS-X' label and that ALL of those charts are NFLX. Therefore, all of these charts are NFLX, on NT7 and NT8.

Hi AMATX, thanks for your reply. I'm taking this ticket over from Tabor.

I created the same chart setups in my NinjaTrader 7 and 8 installation and my SMA's are the same. Currently, my SMA values are 358.8 on both installations (12:45 on the 5 minute chart)

If your NT8 installation matches this number, please try reloading your NinjaTrader 7 cache:

To delete the cache, follow the steps below.
                            • Shut down NinjaTrader.
                            • Open the Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > db folder.
                            • Delete the sub-folder named 'cache'.
                            • Restart NinjaTrader and test.
Please also make sure you have exactly the same amount of historical data on both of your installations.

I look forward to hearing of your results.

                              More info/testing, pls:

                              * What length MovAve are you plotting?
                              * Precise versions of NT7, NT8, IQFeed? They need to match mine for a valid comparison.

I know about the cache on disk, etc. IF you can generate exactly same results on both NT7/NT8, using same versions I'm using, I can easily recreate the cache. BUT, gots to knowed some results first

Also, pls test the following exact MovAves/timeframes, so I know the results will match on very long MovAves:

50,000 MovAve. Yes, 50k bars for the MovAve.

5sec, 15sec, 30sec, 1min, 2min charts. Try a well-known stock, such as AAPL or FB. No need to report the numbers, as they'll be out of date by the time you finish. I just need to know if SAME results. IF exactly same results, could be the cache is my problem w/NT7 or NT8 cache. Note that the look back period can be substantial with the long MovAves, especially on longer charts, such as the 2 minute, so take that into account.

Actually, I hope the Nt7 or NT8 cache -is- the problem, as this is a quick & easy fix
