    Disable hardware acceleration

Do you have a way to disable hardware acceleration? My windows 10 v1909 and Nvidia drivers are buggy and sometimes NT8 window borders go missing and I have to terminate from the program with Task Manager with data loss.

    Hello hurleydood,

NinjaTrader 8 uses the GPU extensively to draw charts. While you are able to disable the hardware acceleration it could potentially cause issues with the speed at which your charts render, introducing delays or other issues.

My first suggestion would be to ensure your video card drivers are fully updated. Often, an issue with the drivers can be resolved by installing the newest NVidia drivers and selecting a "Clean Installation".

While this installation takes longer it will completely remove and reinstall the drivers, which might resolve the graphical problems you've described.

Should reinstalling the drivers not help and your NinjaTrader 8 windows still cause issues after the system has restarted, please send us your Log & Trace files, as this would allow us to assist you better. To do this please follow the steps below:
    • You can do this by going to the Control Center-> Help-> Email Support
    • Ensuring 'Log and Trace Files' is checked will include these files. This is checked by default.

It was a clean install with Windows 10 (1909) and latest Nvidia drivers. The log below shows "Loss of DirectX device detected. Attempting to recreate..."

"While you are able to disable the hardware acceleration it could potentially cause issues with the speed at which your charts render, introducing delays or other issues." Is there an issue running NT8 in a VPS? I intend to run NT8 on VPS with doesn't have video acceleration. My local machine is a beast has 4.4ghz, 8 cores/16 threads. It has no problem with CPU rendering as I'm running a bunch of tos charts with CPU-only rendering and it barely uses 6% CPU on full load.

      Trace.Log of that day.

        Hello hurleydood,

        Thank you for the response.

Looking at the log you posted I would like to ask you to go through a few troubleshooting steps, this should help with the DirectX device loss:
        • Ensure NinjaTrader is updated to the latest version
        • Prevent Windows from turning off the video card to save power
          • Right-click your desktop => Display Settings
          • Power and Sleep => Additional Power Settings => Change Plan Settings
          • Next to your current plan => Advanced power settings => PCI Express => Link State Power Management => On battery and plugged in settings : Off
Please let me know should you still experience any issues after taking these steps.

Regarding the VPS; You would have to reach out to the VPS provider directly to ensure NinjaTrader will run on their system.

If you would like I could connect you with our Ninjatrader Ecosystem Team, they work closely with third-parties, including a variety of VPS providers. As such, they would be able to give you more detailed information or assess the provider(s) you're most interested in.

I don't have that power management option, its set to "Moderate power savings". It's desktop that runs 24/7.
I can run NT8 on my VPS without hardware accelerated graphics just fine. Because I am having Windows 10/Nvidia issues with my local machine I would like the ability to turn off hardware acceleration like how it's off on my VPS.

Hey hurley, video drivers may actually become corrupted for no logical reason. It has happened to me in the past (Win 7) and for me it would show up when scrolling in a window and the prior text positions do not erase and it looks like video feedback. Even if you think your drivers are OK, they might not be and you should reinstall them or update them if there are newer available. That would be the first thing to do.

              Hello hurleydood,

              Thank you for your post.

I would first like to test if this behavior persists after turning this option to 'Off' as it is possible that your computer is periodically turning off your Graphics Card to conserve power.

With NinjaTrader 8, your Graphics Card is used to render windows and charts and we would want to remove as many variables as possible before we would be able to confirm if Hardware Acceleration is the culprit.

Please let me know if you are still experiencing the same after turning this setting off.

The setting is Off. Also the computer is never idle during trading hours and is at full performance settings.
I have reinstalled Nvidia drivers and the issue still persists and I have now reached out to Nvidia.
The display hangs momentarily but eventually recovers.
The only application that breaks is NT8 with this error log below.
All NT8 windows borders are completely missing and no way to close the window without termination through task manager.
Parts of NT8 are still functional for example the charts update. All other Windows programs continue to work fine.

                      Hello hurleydood,

                      Thank you for your note.

You may terminate NinjaTrader by ending the task through the Windows Task Manager.

Select NinjaTrader under active processes and then click on the 'End Task' button
