    missing tickers

    Hi

I can't see charts for SPX, VIX or GLD (my broker and data is from Interactive Brokers)

However, I CAN see those tickers on TWS.

    Thanks.

    Hello Irukandji,

First, confirm that the data in TWS for these instruments are not delayed.
(Hover the mouse over each instrument and ensure it does not say delayed in the tool-tip that appears).

Are you looking for the S&P 500 Index CFD? This is the @SPX500 CFD in NinjaTrader 8.
Have you loaded @SPX500 on a chart?

GLD does not come pre-mapped in NinjaTrader. The exchange and symbol mapping needs to be setup in the instrument settings.
Below is a link to a video that demonstrates using TWS to get the necessary settings information for the instrument settings in NinjaTrader.

      Hi Chelsea

OK - none of them are delayed.

I followed the video for mapping symbols using GLD as my example. I did what it said but when I saved it, I got the message saying "there is already an instrument with that name"

"Are you looking for the S&P 500 Index CFD? This is the @SPX500 CFD in NinjaTrader 8. Have you loaded @SPX500 on a chart?"

No I'm not looking for a CFD. I just want to see the Index (SPX) and I also want to see the VIX.

This is not for trading but just for seeing what is going on in the market.

      Thanks.

        Hello Irukandji,

        Thanks for the reply.

You can pull up the September S&P futures contract by typing "ES 09-18" into the chart. Similarly, you would type "VX 09-18" for the September VIX. Check the log tab of your Control Center if you still see no data after trying that and let me know of any errors that you see.

I look forward to hearing of your results.

          Hi

I don't want futures contracts - I just want to see the indexes:

          SPX:

          VIX:

              Hello Irukandji,

              Thanks for the reply.

If you are getting the duplicate instrument error, this means that an instrument of that name already exists and it needs to be edited with the correct settings. When you attempt to pull up an instrument on a chart that is not in the database, NinjaTrader will automatically add an instrument of that name as an equity. If that is the case, the mapping from NinjaTrader to IB must be edited correctly. You can search for the added instrument name that you are trying to add in the Instruments window.

Please let me know if I may be of any further assistance.

                OK.

So an index is not an equity, it's just an index.

How do I see the SPX and the VIX?

                Thanks.

                  Hello Irukandji,

                  Thanks for the reply.

It looks like "^SP500" is the instrument to use. This has "SPX" for the Interactive Brokers mapping.

Please let me know if that works for you.

                    Hi

Yes that certainly gives the same reading as the SPX.

So I guess I can use that!

What about the VIX? Any idea?

                    Thanks.

                      Hello Irukandji,

                      Thanks for the reply.

I was able to pull up the VIX index with "^VIX".

Please let me know if that does not work on your end.

                        Yeah, looks like it works.

So ^ is reserved for Indexes is it?

                        Thanks.

                          Hello Irukandji,

Yes, in my experience, I have seen all indexes start with a ^.

Please let me know if I can help further.
