Paper Trades Futures account setup

I m wanting to setup the future's demo platform to reflect what I would be trading in real time account
To further explain what I am trying to do is practice with the same amount of funds as I would have in my account
I plan to start an actual account with only $500
So with being said how do I setup the demo to $500 in funded cash with the correct margins for that amount.
I also would like to know what futures are able to be traded for only $500

Hi Compman2002, thanks for your note.

You can adjust the starting cash of the Sim101 account by going to the Accounts tab of the Control Center>Right Click the Sim101 Account>Edit Account>Change the Initial Cash>Click "reset".

NinjaTrader has a default risk template you can look at through Tools>Risk. This is for NinjaTrader Brokerage. If you do have more questions on any brokerage related items please email brokagesupport at ninjatrader.com. The Micro futures instruments do not take much margin.

One question
with the demo set to $500 it is allowing me to trade after hours is this the same for live account?

Hello Compman2002,

Changing the cash value of the simulation account does not directly change the ability to submit orders to that account after hours. Orders submitted with the Sim101 account will be processed as long as their is active realtime data to simulate the order fill.

A live account may not be able to submit orders after hours due to margin rules on the account.

Margin can be simulated on NinjaTrader by assigning a Risk Template to the Sim account. This would be done by right clicking on the account, selecting Edit Account, and then assigning a Risk Template.

Hi Compman2002, thanks for the follow up.

It sounds like the demo account has expired. Demos are limited from the provider to one per year per customer, unfortunately.

Hi Compman2002, thanks for your reply.

You can use the Simulated data feed and use the Sim101 account to simulate trading. This data will not be real (its generated by the computer), but it will act as real time data. You may also look into a data only subscription like Kinetic or IQFeed. With those subscriptions you can get real time data and not pay for a brokerage account.
