IB Gateway vs IB Trader Workstation - Which is easier to connect to?

Hi all,

I'm currently trying to connect NT8 to IB through TWS. I run into issues with auto-login, security codes and the like. Not a big deal, as I slog through it.

I'm wondering if using IB's Gateway is easier to connect through for NT8. I would follow the instructions via this page:

Anyone with experience with IB Gateway prefer/not prefer over TWS?

Thanks for posting.

I can confirm that both of these methods to connect are supported and confirmed to be functional. However, ultimately, the option you use would be up to you as it would be part of your trading method. I'm happy to leave this forum thread open for other users to leave their feedback and experiences, however.

Hi All, I am in a similar situation but I'd really appreciate to know that why would someone like to use TWS parallely while using NT8? Wouldn't the Gateway be sufficient to add the broker connection to NT8 or is there anything else there that faciiltates using TWS with NT8? I'd highly appreciate a kind of elabpration to this fact.

Thanks for your post.

Gateway and TWS would both have the API connection available to send to the NinjaTrader platform and in that regard will function the same way in the NinjaTrader platform.

Any features that differentiate Gateway and TWS would be outside of the spectrum of the API needed for this connection in NinjaTrader and would be up to your own discretion which you would want to use to make this connection to NinjaTrader.
