    keltner indicator, mid line doesn't match with ema of the same period

    Hello,

    Using NT8, version=8.0.21.0 64-bit.

    I have the following situation I cannot resolve.

    I have Keltner indicator (period=26, offset multiplier=1.0, data=close price) and EMA(period=26, data=close price).

    In theory - the Keltner mid line must match with the EMA of the same period.

    However, it doesn't in my case. Please, see the image attached.

    Am I missing something ?

    Colors:
    royalblue=ema(26)
    yellowgreen=keltner(26,1.0)
    grey=keltner middle line

    Please, help.

    Thanks, Serguei.

    Hello sergueip,

    Thank you for your note.

    The Keltner Channel indicator actually uses an SMA for the center line, not an EMA. That SMA is calculated using the Typical price type. Try using a 26 period SMA using Typical instead of Close data - they should match up.

      Hello,

      Ok, I got it now (SMA base). Thanks.

      Is there any parameter or an alternative Keltner indicator in NT8 based on EMA ?

      Best regards, Serguei.

        Hello sergueip,

        Thank you for your reply.

        This indicator is publicly available on our NinjaTrader Ecosystem website:
        Here is a basic guideline of how to import NinjaScript add-ons in NinjaTrader 8:

        Note — To import NinjaScripts you will need the original .zip file.

        To Import:
        1. Download the NinjaScripts to your desktop, keep them in the compressed .zip file.
        2. From the Control Center window select the menu Tools > Import > NinjaScript Add-on...
        3. Select the downloaded .zip file
        4. NinjaTrader will then confirm if the import has been successful.

        Critical - Specifically for some NinjaScripts, it will prompt that you are running newer versions of @SMA, @EMA, etc. and ask if you want to replace, press 'No'

        Once installed, you may add the indicator to a chart by:
        • Right click your chart > Indicators... > Select the Indicator from the 'Available' list on the left > Add > OK

        Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

            Hello NT support,
            So default NT Keltner Channel is based on SMA, question is what is the base for multiplier? Is it ATR?
            Thank You.

              Hello AKATNT,

              Thank you for your note.

              In the Keltner Channel indicator the multiplier is simply a user input value. The Keltner Channel then calculates the offset based on that user input multiplied by the difference between the high and the low of the bar. The code for the Keltner Channel can be viewed in the NinjaScript Editor.

                Is there a plan to correct the NT8 Keltner calculation to use the traditional EMA as the baseline?

                  I am not aware of this being changed however I have submitted your suggestion to our development team and will follow up as soon as a tracking number has been assigned.
