Connecting with IB data - Metal products

    Hello traders,

My broker is Interactive Brokers (IB) and I tried to use IB market data to feed the NJ8 charts.

I have built the connection between IB and NJ8 based on the official guide and I can pull out the Forex instruments charts successfully (such as spot AUDUSD). However I failed for the IB Metal products (spot Gold and spot Silver) Here is a link for their description (they are not CFDs nor Forex):

I tried to input "XAGUSD" in my NJ8 but the Log said "IB was unable to locate instrument...". I do have live real time data available from my IB. Then I tried to create a new instrument in NJ8 with new symbol mapping (Master instrument = XAGUSDIB, Instrument type = Index, Symbol Map / Interactive Brokers = XAGUSD|SMART). Failed again...

Can someone help me on this issue please? Thanks in advance

    Hello dryfish,

I'm not familiar with XAG as a 3 character forex symbol in NinjaTrader.

I think you might mean XAU (gold).

    Try XAUUSD.

      Hello ChelseaB

Well XAG means spot silver and XAU means spot gold.

I indeed tried XAUUSD, which shows the same problem as spot silver - nothing coming out in my Chart window...

      Thanks anyway

FX commodity instruments are not supported when connecting to NinjaTrader with Interactive Brokers.

There is a currently active feature request for this capability which I will add your vote to. I'll edit this post when I locate the tracking number. EDIT - the tracking ID is SFT-942,

          Thanks Patrick for your reply.

Hopefully one day NinjaTrader will be able to support spot Metals from IB...

I am struggling to get spot silver to show a chart from IB. Can it be done now? If so what is the mapping please?

              Hello kebabman,

Yes, you should be able to load data for the XAGUSD forex instrument that is present by default with Interactive Brokers. I suggest to remove the manually created instrument and use the default XAGUSD which uses XAG.USD||||USD as symbol map.

Many thanks for your reply. I have retried the the default XAGUSD but just get the message "error on requesting bar series IB was unable to locate etc" Are you able to test it out at your end please?

My apologies, you will need to use the XAGUSD CFD and not the XAGUSD forex instrument to load data from Interactive Brokers. When I test the XAGUSD CFD, I'm able to load the requested data in charts.

You would type @XAGUSD in the instrument field of the chart to load data for the XAGUSD CFD. Hit Enter on your keyboard after you typed @XAGUSD in the instrument field.

Unfortunately I deleted the CFD entry and am still not having any success. Please could you post a screen shot of all the entries for the fields in the instrument settings window so that I can recreate the CFD version correctly. Many thanks

Can you please go to Control Center-->Tools-->Database Management and click the Update button under Update instruments. This will bring back the XAGUSD CFD without having to manually recreate it.
