    "IB: Lost or unable to establish communications with IB TWS/GW

    Hello PlatformSupport,

    I get this error message when I try to connect to IB. It has worked in the past.

    "IB: Lost or unable to establish communications with IB TWS/GW.
    Please verify TWS/GW is running on the target machine and
    try reconnecting or contact support if the issue persists. (Panic)"

    TWS data connection show all green (connected).

    I am currently using these versions.
    NinjaTrader 8.0.21.1 64-bit
    Trader Workstation TWS 978.1o

    I am unable to download data at End-Of-Day (EOD) or connect to live data during the day.
    I trade off minute, hour or daily charts. No tick data.

    jim1234 , I split your post into it's own thread as it was not directly related to the thread and symptom you had posted under originally.

    I see you're using an unsupported version of TWS. To ensure that this unsupported version is not contributing to any symptoms, I recommend that you download and use the supported version of TWS (973.2). Here is a direct link:If you can't connect to Kinetick end-of-day either, this suggests some broader general networking issue my be the root cause. To resolve this, I recommend the following steps (test for the issue after each step):
    • Restart NinjaTrader
    • Restart your modem and (if applicable) router
    • Restart your PC
    • Clear your DNS
    • If you are not already and the option is available to you, connect to the internet using an ethernet cable. Wireless connections are significantly more unreliable.
    • Ensure exceptions have been added into any firewall/antivirus/backup programs for the Documents > "NinjaTrader 8" folder.
    • Ensure that your computer is not turning off your Network Adapter to conserve power:
      • Right-click on your Start button
      • Select 'Device Manager'
      • Expand 'Network Adapters'
      • Right-click on your Network Adapter and select Properties > Power Management
      • Uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' option
      • Click 'OK' to save the changes
      • Do this for all Network Adapters
    • If the above steps do not help, contact your ISP and let them know you are experiencing a highly unstable connection. An issue of connectivity may exist on their end.

      Hi Patrick,

      Thank you for getting me in the right thread.

      I have installed the version of Trader WorkStation TWS 973.2h from your link.
      I am currently using NinjaTrader 8.0.21.1 64-bit.

      Kinetick EOD works flawlessly every time, so I can download EOD data and have Daily charts.

      TWS data connection show all green (connected).
      When I try to connect to TWS (to get minute data after market hours or have live minute charts during trading hours)
      I still get this error message.

      "IB: Lost or unable to establish communications with IB TWS/GW.
      Please verify TWS/GW is running on the target machine and
      try reconnecting or contact support if the issue persists. (Panic)"

      The TWS-Ninjatrader8 connection has worked in the past.

        Please send me your log and trace files so that I may look into what occurred.
        • You can do this by going to the Control Center-> Help-> Email Support
        • Ensuring 'Log and Trace Files' is checked will include these files. This is checked by default.

          Good morning Patrick,

          I managed to get it working. Here are the steps I took.

          Uninstall all TWS versions (the first time I installed the correct TWS version, I found remnants of another version still on my computer),
          Reboot computer,
          Re-install TWS973-2 (still would not work at this point),
          Re-construct IB connection including re-typing Username and Password, Port Numbers, etc. in the configuration dialogue.

          Perhaps, if we had deleted and re-constructed the IB connection dialogue it would have worked without installing the correct version of TWS. However, in my case, I am glad I have the correct Ninjatrader version 973.2 installed.
          I will try to make sure TWS does not try to update to a newer Ninjatrader-unsupported version of TWS.
