    Buy/Sell signal on volume change

    Hi,

Is there a simple way to set NT8 in a way that it would buy or sell after volume reaches a certain level?

Is this a question for strategy subforum?

    Thanks,

    Hello ,

    Thank you for your post.

Glad to assist. Alerts can be set on indicator values, and you can use the Alert action "Submit an order" to initiate a buy or sell.

For example, you can right click on the VOL indicator added to the chart > Select Alerts... Next, use the middle setting to select Cross Above, Equals, ect. Next, use the lower right Numeric value field for the needed VOL level > Press OK.

Next, the use the lower Alert > add to select "Submit an order."

See the below section of our help guide for more alert examples.

Thank you! That exactly what I was looking for.

      A couple of questions,

      1) There are different types of orders available (Buy, Buy to Cover, Sell, Sell Short). What do they mean in terms of an indicator? For example, two situations: a) looking to buy; b) already bought and looking to sell. With Buy and Sell, it is clear, what about Buy-to-Cover and Sell-Short for each situation?

      2) Is there a way to automate this process? Run a wizard of sorts to buy and sell w/out human intervention?

      Thanks,

        Thank you for your reply.

Buy to cover will be used to close a short position, Sell Short to enter a short position.

Yes, our NinjaScript team will be able to follow up on setting this up automatic options on this matter.

We look forward to assisting further.

I see. What, then, is the difference between Sell and Sell Short? What if one puts Sell without having bought before?

Also, how can one plug an ATM strategy to an indicator alert?

Will look forward to hearing from the NS team.

One more question. On five-minute graphic, is it possible to assess volume of two bars? If one would like to see action when combined volume of two consecutive bars is above certain value.

            Thanks!

              Hello Lester Macena,

A sell order would be used to close a long position.

A sell short order would be used to open a short position.

If the wrong order type is used, the behavior would depend on your broker. Your broker might accept the order or it may reject the order. I recommend you contact your broker and ask what will happen if the wrong order type is used based on the position.

Below I am providing a link to a forum post with helpful information about getting started with NinjaScript.

Alerts are not able to submit orders with an Atm Strategy applied.

Strategies can use Atm Strategy methods to submit orders with an Atm Strategy applied.
These orders, however, do not affect the strategy position or performance.

Below is a public link to the help guide on Atm Strategy Methods.
              https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...gy_methods.htm

The Alerts are not able to do math such as adding the volume of two bars together. You would need to create an unlocked script to perform math such as this.
