What is wrong with my csv file?

    Hello there!
I'm trying to import my hystorical data to NT8, but I can't understand what is wrong with it. I made the format like it is in instruction, but import fails. Please, help me.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

Do you receive a particular error when trying to import? What does this error report?

Has the "ddd" instrument been added to the Instrument database prior to the import attempt?

I look forward to your reply.

Here it is. No, I did not find information about adding instrument to database in import instruction. Maybe it is a problem. Could you please tell me how to do it?

        Hello,

        Thanks for that clarification.

You'll want to use VIX.Last.csv (capitalization is important as well).

Historical data can be imported from a text file with a ".txt" extension within the Load tab of the Historical Data Window. Several formats and data types are supported and NinjaTrader can optionally build 'Minute' bars from tick data as well as 'Day' bars from tick or minute data.

Additionally, you'll need to ensure the data is formatted correctly according to the type of data and what each field is meant to represent:

Please let me know if I may be of any further assistance.

The same result. Data is formatted correctly, but import fails.

            Hello,

            Thank you for the reply.

I was also unable to import this data due to the format.

It looks as though you h ve two ';;' semi-colons after each line, which would not match the specified format in the Help Guide.

It looks like it is failing with the error 'Unexpected number of fields,' which means you have too much information in each line for a successful import.

What kind of data are you trying to import? Is this daily data, minute data, etc?

I look forward to your reply.

It's daily data. Yes, it has two ";" after each line. I saved data in Exsel and it has this format for csv. Should I try to change it on one ";" in some csv editor?

                Hello,

                Thank you for the response.

You have 7 entries per line in your file as well:
                20200422;35.36;35.52;33.68;33.94;-1.85;0;;
According to the Help Guide, daily data should look like this:
                20061023;1377.25;1377.25;1377.25;1377.25;86

I modified your file and removed the -1.85 section for the first few lines, as well as the ';;'.

The result was a new error 'Time stamp is smaller than timestamp of previous line' so you may want to change the order of the lines as well.

I was able to successfully import those four lines by reversing the order, here is a sample file of the format that successfully imported. You would want to make all of the data match this.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
