    How to remove _tmpStrategy reference

I was in the middle of compiling a strategy when NinjaTrader 8 locked up. I had to kill it with the task manager. After restarting, NT cannot be compiled.

I cannot open the strategy in the script editor or builder. I tried to disable or remove the strategy that was being compiled when the system hung. This produces a message that says it cannot be removed because it is referenced by _tmpStrategy.

I have restarted NT and even rebooted my machine but it continues to give the same error.

    What should I do?

P.S. I run NinjaTrader on a Mac using Parallels.

    Hello cupir2,

Thank you for the post, and welcome to the NinjaTrader forum.

Please navigate to the following directory:

    ..\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom

Once there, go inside of the Strategies folder and move the problem strategy to your desktop (or somewhere not within the NinjaTrader 8 folder).

After you do this, you should be able to launch NinjaTrader again and compile.

Please make sure that you have parallels configured correctly as well.

If you have not already, please make sure that you turn off file sharing with the Mac using these steps:

    Configuring NinjaTrader for Parallels:
    1. Start Parallels and select your virtual machine
    2. Press the "Configure" button on the top
    3. Under "Options", select "Sharing"
    4. Uncheck "Share Mac" under "Share Mac User Folders with Windows"
    5. Press "OK" and start the virtual machine

Please let me know if I can assist further.

      Hi Chris,
Thanks for your help. Regarding file sharing, for other applications I generally leave file sharing on. What are the dangers of having file sharing enabled? Are there user errors to beware of or is the danger from a system process?

      Thanks

        Hello cupir2,

        Thank you for the follow-up.

Using the file sharing can lead to unexpected errors in NinjaTrader, it is a software interaction error and is not caused by the user. Running on Parallels is not officially supported, so you must turn off file sharing with the Mac side of the PC to avoid any unhandled exceptions that might occur. Were you able to clear the compiling lock up by taking the aforementioned steps?

I look forward to your reply.
