NinjaTrader 8 cannot connect to Interactive Brokers TWS

    NinjaTrader 8 cannot connect to Interactive Brokers TWS

    I have searched the support forums and could not find anything that relates to my particular issue.

    I signed up for a trial account with Interactive Brokers. I created a new connection for Interactive brokers following the steps in the recommend article. I cannot connect. Can you assist?

    NinjaTrader is able to launch TWS and successfully login, but the icon in the bottom right-hand corner of NinjaTrader remains yellow for a minute or so, then the following error message appears:

    Here is my Interactive Brokers connection information in NinjaTrader:
    The Auto login path correctly points to the installed version of tws.exe.

    Here is the API settings information in TWS:

    NinjaTrader version: 8.0.21.1 64-bit
    Trader Workstation version: 973.2

    I have tried setting the Port TWS value equal to the Socket Port value, but that resulted in an immediate error.

    Thank you for your note.

    Please follow the steps below to manually attach your log and trace files to an email to platformsupport[AT]ninjatrader[DOT]com with "ATTN CHRIS S 2562446" in the subject line so I may investigate this matter further.
    • Open your NinjaTrader folder under Documents.
    • Right click on the 'log' and 'trace' folders and select Send To> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
    • Send the 2 compressed folders as attachments to this email.
    • Once complete, you can delete these compressed folders.

    I look forward to your reply.

        I managed to solve my issue.

        In my previous attempts, I had tried setting the Port TWS value in NinjaTrader to the Socket port value in TWS. This did not work and resulted in an immediate error.

        I just tried the reverse: setting the Socket port value in TWS to the Port TWS value in NinjaTrader. This worked! I am not sure why this assignment worked and the previous did not. Perhaps it is a question of reserved port numbers.

          Nope. Still cannot connect to TWS from NinjaTrader. I was able to connect that one time. Today, I cannot connect at all. The socket port has not changed since that single successful connection.

          Would you have any further ideas? Thanks.

                  I simply installed and started to use IB Gateway 972.
                  I was never able to connect using IB TWS 973.
