How to treat undocumented methods and properties?

    Hi community,

What's the best way to handle NinjaTrader 8's public methods and properties that do not appear in the official help guide?

From searching the forum I know that with version 7, those methods and properties were 'not supported'. But I'm not really sure what that means, and if it still applies to NinjaTrader 8.

    More specifically, I'm wondering:

    1) Is it recommended to use undocumented methods and properties?
    2) Can the behaviour of undocumented methods and properties change without notice in a future update?
    3) Can undocumented methods and properties be removed in a future update?

Thanks for any insight and comments you might have,

    Hello J_o_s,

    Thanks for your question.

Unsupported/undocumented code may be subject to change as it would not be locked into documentation.

    1. You are free and encouraged to use unsupported/undocumented code. However it would be "use at your own risk" and we would not be able to provide any insight for using.

    2. Yes, this is possible since the code is not locked into documentation. We suggest checking your AddOns with each update if unsupported code is used to ensure that they remain functional.

    3. This is not likely to happen as the code may just be deprecated, but left in. If you use some unsupported NinjaScript code and there is no other way to accomplish the goal, and that code has been removed in an update, we may be able to ask the development team to include it again. This would be handled on a case by case basis as we would be making an exception for providing assistance with that code. We should note that we cannot make any promises here.

    We look forward to assisting.
