drawings and rulers not respecting chart scale when copy and drag n' drop

    Hi,

I drew a rectangle in the past (MNQ daily chart) and made a copy of it and moved it to the present day. But the drawing is not respecting the scale of the rectangle when I drag and drop over the prices, above or below the older one. I've put a ruler to prove the size of rectangle at both sides. When I move the ruler above or below it increases/decreases the points, giving me a false perception too.
In this example i drew 2 rulers. both one have ~1390 points.
the right rectangle was copied from the left one.
if I copy the left ruler and paste on the rectangle, it appears as ~1700 points.
    (see attached)

    Rigth scale is logarithmic.

Why is this happening? Any kind of misconfiguration?

    Hello edrvs,

I ran some tests to see if I can recreate this and was only able to recreate it if the "Snap Mode" is turned on.

If this feature is turned on, discrepancies would be expected as the drawing objects would then 'snap' to the existing grid (the vertical Price, horizontal Bar, or both). This would modify the size and position of each drawing object while 'snapping' it to the closest coordinates.

If this is turned off, however, all drawing tools should copy 1:1 and you should not experience this discrepancy.

Could you let me know if this still occurs if the Snap Mode is turned off?

    Thank you in advance!

      Hi,

I tried disabling the snap mode, but still the same.

      Could you recreate my test?
Draw a square over march/2020, daily MNQ. At the same point I drew (covid pullback). Than move that square to september. Both pullbacks have the same size, but the square shows a discrepancy.

If I draw from 2 squares from scratch it works. But if copy and move around the chart, i get this discrepancy.

Ah... Note that i'm using Logarithmic scale, not Linear. I suspect you are testing with Linear.

            Hello edrvs,

Thank you very much for your reply and the attached video.

I was testing this behavior thoroughly and was not yet able to reproduce it on my own platform.

Could you please send me your workspace, trace, and log files? This would help us in recreating these steps with the same settings you have used.

You can do this by going to the Control Center-> Help-> Mail to Platform Support.

Ensure to check 'Workspace files and UI settings' and ' Log and trace files'.

Please reference the following ticket number in the body of the email: ATTN Manfred - 2737493

Thank you in advance, I look forward to your reply!

                Hello edrvs,

Thank you very much for sending the documents over.

I have researched this thoroughly and, while I've already replied to your email, I'd also like to leave this information here to ensure any forum users looking for this information are able to find it:

Drawing objects will always retain their (pixel-accurate) physical dimension if moved across a chart. While this is intended and works as expected on linear charts, logarithmic charts pose a problem in this regard.

The only option to change this would be to always keep the "End" values (for both, the X— and Y-values) variable and base them on a value-based distance (e.g. "1700 ticks"), rather than a pixel-based value.

However, this is not something that is currently possible within the NinjaTrader platform.

The only option I see that would be feasible at this time would be to manually adjust the drawing object and change its size in the text-entry boxes.

To do this, you would have to first place the object, then manually edit it to overwrite the "End Y" value with the exact difference.

Please let me know should you have any questions in this regard!

                  Hi Manfred,

=( i'm afraid i'll forget to do it someday and consider the wrong sizes. But, thank you for your help

Can you escalate this problem to make a platform improvement for logarithmic scale?
I found this issue when I drew the same thing in tradingview

                    Hello edrvs,

Of course! I already reached out to our Product Development Team with this request.

I will follow up with an internal tracking number for your reference as soon as it is created and post it here.
