    License Use

    Hi,
I purchased a license for live trading with NT 8 and I have two questions:
1 - Is there a limit of accounts I can run under the same license?
2 - If I have two instances of NT 8 running two different licenses over the same IP, would they interfere with each other? (I mean, other than processing power...)

A Single/Broker license can only connect to a single broker technology,
such as Rithmic or Continuum -- but you may setup & fund as many accts
with that single broker as you wish -- once you connect, all accts become
available in the Account drop-down listbox.

A Multi/Broker license allows you to connect to multiple broker technologies,
such as Rithmic and Continuum, at the same time. The accounts you setup
& fund with each broker are all shown in the Account drop-down listbox after
    you connect to that broker.

If you have two instances of NT8 running, then by definition they are running
on separate PCs -- even if the 2nd instance is on a VM and running on the
same physical machine as the 1st instance -- it should not matter -- TCP/IP
is smart and since each PC will have its own IP address, you are guaranteed
that there will be no network interference.

The "interference" comes in the form of connecting to broker accounts on
the 2nd instance -- many times you can only connect to your broker account
from one PC at a time -- contact your broker about multiple connections
if this is what you mean.

        Hello Eddie De Meira,

        Thank you for your post.

1 - Is there a limit of accounts I can run under the same license?
Your license key is registered to you as an individual trader, not a specific account. As bltdavid pointed out, the single broker license key would allow you to trade multiple accounts with the same broker. The multi broker license key would allow you to trade two or more accounts with any of our supported brokers, and you can even connect at the same time. You can find a current list of supported brokers at the link below:
2 - If I have two instances of NT 8 running two different licenses over the same IP, would they interfere with each other?
You can use the same license key to install NinjaTrader on two or more different machines, but you would only be able to run one installation of NinjaTrader at a time. If you want to run two different installations of NinjaTrader at the same time, you would need separate license keys.

If you have two installations of NinjaTrader running on two different computers, then they should not interfere with one another. This would be true even if they are connected over the same network. Platform settings would be stored locally to each installation of NinjaTrader and orders will be managed specific to the account.

I think you meant to say,
even if they are connected over the same external IP address, as long
as you're using some kind of TCP/IP routing device on your LAN
            .

            Because, otherwise,
Technically, and quite literally, this would never happen.

Two different computers require two different IP addresses. Period. Full stop.

Each PC must have unique IP address on the network it is connected to. Each
PC knows nothing about any single external IP address being multiplexed by the
router. A consumer TCP/IP router, whether wired or wireless (or both), is a network
device that, by definition, creates a LAN/WLAN(*) in your home.

The router is the device that makes the sharing of a single external IP address
(supplied by your ISP) even possible.

By definition, network interference is prevented by the TCP/IP network protocol.
This is achieved because, by definition, the router requires each device on the
LAN or WLAN have a unique TCP/IP address.

            LAN = Local Area Network
WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network
