    Custom indicator with programming error message

    I am getting this error when trying to Import a new indicator. I'm not getting any errors otherwise (when starting Ninja, loading my workspace, etc. How do I figure out which indicator is causing the issue?

    Hello 12VMan,

    Thank you for using NinjaTrader.


    This message indicates that there are NinjaScript errors on your platform that need to be resolved before you can import any others.

    To begin resolving this, do the following:
    • Go to the Control Center > New > NinjaScript Editor
    • Right-click in the NinjaScript Editor > select 'Compile'
    You should see some errors in orange appear at the bottom of the window. Expand this window so that as many of these errors, if not all of them, are visible. Expand the error message itself as much as possible. Please send a screenshot of these errors, and we will be able to send you the steps to resolve them.

    To send a screenshot with Windows 10 or newer I would recommend using the Windows Snipping Tool.Alternatively to send a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screenshot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CTRL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save it as a jpeg file and send the file as an attachment.

      Thanks. I figured out which indicator is causing the issue. However, I get an error message when trying to remove it via Tools / Remove NinjaScript Assembly saying I cannot remove a NinjaScript Assembly until the errors are resolved. Not sure how to get around this?

        Thank you for your response.


        As mentioned, you will not be able to remove or import new add-ons until these errors are resolved. Please do not try manually removing files or forcing anything to change without following the steps below or you could risk breaking the platform and ending up in a situation where you would have to reimport all of your add-ons from scratch.

        To begin resolving this, do the following:

          Here are some of the errors. I cannot get the error part of the window to expand to show more/all

            Steps to Resolve
            1. Right-click within the NinjaScript Editor window and select "References".
            2. Click "Add".
            3. Locate the .dll file for the file mentioned in the error.
            4. Click "Open" to add the reference.
            5. Click "OK" and recompile.

            Repeat these steps for each indicator listed, and once the errors are all gone, you will be able to import and remove indicators and add-ons normally again.

              Thanks. I'm no longer getting errors. Does that mean the indicator that was an issue is now resolved? (side note - I am able to import new indies now).

                  Hello - I am having this issue again, only this time it is a lot of indicators. When I try the instructions you previously provided above, however, there are no .dll files to select that match the errors. Not sure where to go from here?

                      Since this is a different error, there will be different steps needed to resolve them.

                      Steps to Resolve
                      1. Right-click within the NinjaScript Editor window and select "References".
                      2. Click "Add".
                      3. Locate the .dll file for the file mentioned in the error.
                      4. Click "Open" to add the reference.
                      5. Click "OK" and recompile.
                      Video Example of Resolution

                      You may repeat these steps for each indicator listed here, and once all their .dll files are added, the errors will disappear and you will be all set to go.
