How to switch from free license to simulation license?
A reinstallation of Ninja Trader didn't work.

Control Center -> Help -> License key
and copying and pasting the new license key
into that dialog.

Why does it matter that your @SIM license key be a 'new' key?
AFAIK, it shouldn't matter.

However,
I haven't used a @SIM license key in a long time.
So, beg pardon, I could be wrong.

You can switch from a free live license key to a simulation only license key using the instructions below:

Please copy the license key provided below and paste it under the Control Center> Help> License Key:

Please ensure that you have restarted NinjaTrader for the changes to be applied.

Please be advised that the above is the only simulation license key and it is preconfigured in every platform installation.

Is there a similar key for the free license which enables live trading?
I already have a Ninja Trader Brokerage account. Do I have to get the key from my account?

That is correct, the @SIM key is always the same and comes preconfigured in the platform. You can request a unique free live license key for live trading at the link below:

The license key will be linked to your name and email as the individual trader and owner, not to your brokerage account. You can use your live key to trade any account in your name or that you have power of attorney over.
