It looks like you have to monitor two different web pages; The calendar webpage to find out if they have listed an impactful event and the trade desk page to monitor what margins are in effect. The trade desk webpage does not refresh itself and the user must constantly refresh the webpage manually.

No. NinjaTrader needs to do better. This is an absurd requirement to impose on traders.

NinjaTrader could add an icon indicator at the top right of the Control Center window just like they did for the "Watch" indicator they just added. Highlight it red when margins have changed to initial margin requirements, white for intraday margin requirements. Done.

Since the coding for the "Watch" icon has already been created, adding another icon for margins should be an easy feat for the NT platform team. If your going to change margin requirements throughout the day (which is lame in the first place), the least you could do is put an indicator in place within the platform to inform your traders when this happens. Add a sound to that indicator too while your at it. Too much to ask for the "best trading software?" No, it is not. Add the indicator or don't change the margin requirements. Don't be evil.

FWIW - re: implementing as ‘Watch’ button - same comments as on that thread. Firstly implementation was incompetent - released downloading tons of data. Secondly, just as many Users expressed their wish not to have a distraction they had no interest in forced upon them, there are Users of the NT Platform that do not use NT Brokerage and do not wish to have the distraction of a ‘Watch-like’ button flashing whenever NT Brokerage decides to change margins. Hence if implemented in this manner, it should be possible for it to be ‘removed’ completely for those Users that have no interest.

If it were to be implemented in this manner, it should be possible, and thus done, such that the Platform identifies automatically if the User is using NT Brokerage and if not, not display. But even if an NT Brokerage client, I would expect many would neither want nor need by default.

Just like the ‘Watch’ button should have been in the first place. Ill-conceived, poorly implemented, un-satisfactorily resolved. Forcing unnecessary and unwanted features on Users by Default without the option to remove or disable. Wrong direction of travel.

Will NT Brokerage issue a pop-up and sound alert when it increases to the initial exchange margin? Why not?

No – There has been significant feedback previously that pop-ups related to these items interfere with trading more than they assist. You can check the order desk updates page on days there is a news event for up-to-the-minute margin changes.


You can have an in app popup in a corner of the screen of the users choosing that would not be in the way (like bottom left or top left), bottom center, or top center.
The user can opt in or opt out so if they want it can have and if not then won't.
Same with sound alert / alarm.
many indicators have sound alerts as options.
a margin increase is something need to be aware of.

But what i would want is option to just shut off trading ability if margin requirements are increased so I don't even have to worry / think about it.
And that would really help anyone running automated / with algos / bots.
And I would also want a warning pop up in the app and sound alert as far before that can as possible and 5m before. so if in a trade can know to exit.
