    NT8 Keeps Crashing

    O.K.

I'm getting the following message with NT8 freezing. I'm unable to work for more then a few minutes between crashes. I am using the WFO when it happens.

    Any help would be appreciated.

        Ryan,

I sent them to Alan via the internal send message function. Basically its crashing on WFO even using the internal simple moving average crossover.

Any help appreciated. Ping Alan to take a look at my trace files.

Exact same thing is happening here. I checked the Windows even log and I'm getting the exact same error. NT8 crashes on daily charts, I have two different computers (Win 7 64bit and Win 8 64 bit) and I'm experiencing the same issue on both. Ryan, I just have sent an email to you with the trace and log files. I have tried different versions of .Net Framework, renamed the database and reinstalled NT8 completely without any luck.

thank you for your time, Sergey

                Hello GuppyDRV,

Due to the high volume of tickets I'm unable to find the previous message thread where we were working on this issue. Would you please be able to reply to the most recent email of that thread so I can find the relevant information?

I look forward to receiving your email.

In may case the issue has been resolved by removing the following update on Win7 Pro 64bit:
KB2912390 (Vulnerability in Direct2D Could Allow Remote Code Execution). You can do it by going to the control panel-->programs and features-->view installed updates-->click on an update and then uninstall it. Also, you can search from the view installed updates window (right upper corner) by typing KB291
Also, I had the same issue on a Win8 64bit computer and I removed the following updates to fix the issue: KB2912390 KB2893294 KB2892074. I didn't have time to find the specific update that causes the issue but I'm assuming it was KB2912390

                  I hope it helps.

Great find, how did you ever trouble shoot down to that level of granularity? Did you just happen to notice the crashes after having installed the update. My Win 7 64 bit system is current so I'll give this a try.

                    @NinjaTrader_AlanP

Any thoughts on this topic would be appreciated.

I see that on my Win7 64-bit, KB2912390 was installed almost 3 years ago. I have rarely encountered the CLR20r3 event (months between occurrences) and subsequently restarting NT shows no ill effects.

I have been getting the CLR20r3 error every 10-15 runs with WFO it has rendered NT8 useless. When you receive this error what function are you working with? I have gone back to NT7 for trading and am trying to decide if making the switch is worth it at this point.

So I just uninstalled this update on my win 7 64 bit machine KB2912390 and on the 3rd WFO run had a crash with the CLR20r3 error code.

Might be something else going on with my system.

I am not doing anything with automated strategies in NT8, so any crashes that I've seen are not strategy-related. Sometimes they are due to my own coding errors, but other times I get the sense that resource-intensive activity causes NT8 to trip, fall and auger into the ground as it or the machine gets overwhelmed.

On that premise, I have instituted the following start-up sequence routine:
                            • Start NT8 with an empty workspace, with no active data connection
                            • Connect to a live data provider
                            • Load yesterday's and today's historical data for all instruments I follow
                            • Open the trading workspace(s) (charts, DOM, etc.)
                            • If any chart looks out-of-sync, most likely a TickReplay chart that contains indicators with OnRender overrides, reload all historical data on the chart.

At the end of the day, close the active workspace(s) so that only the empty one remains before shutting down.

Should I have to be this gentle with NT8? No, but I will if it keeps the crashes at bay, which the above routine seems to accomplish.

This is what the log page looks like every time. I can only manage around 3-4 WFO before the system crashes. I re-installed the windows update just to see if that changed anything,.
