    NT 8 market replay compatibility

    Hi,

Can NT 8 use the market replay data downloaded for NT 7? If yes, how can that be achieved?

    Thanks

    Hello 2Look4me,

    Thank you for your post,

Yes, when NinjaTrader 8 is first launched on a PC with NinjaTrader 7 installed, the Migration process will be able to covert the replay data downloaded there for use with NinjaTrader 8.

If you have already skipped the migration process, it can be re-ran by closing NinjaTrader 8 and renaming the Documents > NinjaTrader 8 > "config" file and restarting.

      Hi, the instructions are :
If you have already skipped the migration process, it can be re-ran by closing NinjaTrader 8 and renaming the Documents > NinjaTrader 8 > "config" file and restarting.
How would that work if I have different NT7 market replay data files for independent instruments? What would NinjaTrader 8> Config.xml be renamed to? Will this migration process delete current NT8 indicators and securities?
      Thanks

2Look4me, thank you for posting back up.

You're right, this would remove any custom references from your configuration causing compile errors. Your custom securities, however, would remain.

You are able to start the migration process once again which wouldn't affect these items. To do so, you'll have to edit the code within the configuration file. I would advise that you make a copy of the configuration as a safety precaution. Please take the steps below to do so.
        1. Shut down NinjaTrader 8
        2. Navigate to the Documents > NinjaTrader 8 folder location
        3. Right-click on the file, Config.xml, and select Copy; then right-click on the file again and select Paste
        4. Next, right-click on the file once again, Config.xml, and select Open with > Notepad
        5. Next, in the notepad press Ctrl + F and search for the keyword "migrate"
        6. Remove the following line <MigratedNT7>[the date you initially migrated]</MigratedNT7>
        7. Next, go to File > Save
        8. Launch NinjaTrader 8

Once NinjaTrader 8 is launched, migrate your settings. If you notice anything odd, then likely the configuration file got cleared which happens if any code got incorrectly formated. If you see this, delete the config.xml and rename the copy to Config.xml.

If questions come up or if we may be of any further assistance, please post back up.
