Chart not being updated on laptop while display turned off or lid closed

Hi,

When running 8.0.2 on my laptop, the chart stopped updating when I turned off the display or closed the lid (the laptop still kept running).

NT7 worked well, never had this kind of issues. Please help.

If your talking about indicators not updating, make sure IsSuspendedWhileInactive is set to false in each indicator.

Thank you for writing in.

The first thing to check would be your PCs sleep settings as this could affect how the platform runs.

Using the windows search bar on your task bar you can enter 'Sleep' and find the sleep settings.
The laptop may stay on when closed however there may still be other sleep settings implemented.

If the laptop is set to eventually go into a sleep mode this issue can occur.

I had the sleep setting to "Never".

NT7 worked well on the same machine. I didn't change any settings.

With the sleep settings out of the way, please send me your log and trace files so that I may look into what occurred.

You can do this by going to the Control Center-> Help-> Mail to Platform Support.

Ensuring 'Log and Trace Files' is checked will include these files. This is checked by default.

I also experience this in playback market replay, and in live.

The screen simply blanks and at some point the chart stops updating. Grabbing the display area of the chart and moving it caused a refresh and the rest fills in.

This started around RC1 or RC2(at least in replay).

No indicators on chart, chart isn't minimized.

Nothing in Log/trace files related.

First and foremost we have just released version three of NT8. With this update there have been many performance and bug fixes.

Yes, on 8.0.3.0.

Vix chart was stopped at 10:12. Was about to take a screenshot, but I moved the spy when trying to navigate to control center (teamviewer/mobile). Touching the spy chart updated the Vix chart to current time, 13:03pm.

The problem is NT does not update/render a window if there is no update (no new data), but the issue is with WPF/Windows/Graphics drivers when the display is turned off the cache of the window contents is lost, and when the display is turned back on the window is rendered black by the OS/driver. This may be graphics adapter specific, but I know it happens when using built in Intel GPU (which would cover some laptops also).

I provided a potential fix for NT in the original thread but was never implemented. NT needs to detect that the display turned on and mark all windows to update/render.

It still happens in 8.0.3.

I really like running the strategy that way (closing the laptop lid) to eliminate personal emotion involved in trading.

Right, it was introduced in NT8 with WPF.

I didn't experience in previous versions of NT8 Beta across several laptops. This happened around the 11/2016 update.
