NT8 Barchart Feed Disconnecting No Real Time Data

I have recently downloaded NinjaTrader 8 (8.0.4.0) and am having difficulty connecting to a Barchart feed.

I have an active Barchart data feed account. The user name as required starts with NT, and Barchart support confirm that the account is correctly configured for live US equity data. Barchart support have assured me that they are able to pull data using my account credentials. The account is also correctly configured in Ninja.

After clicking the Connections menu item and then MyBarchart, the connection status indicator in the lower left corner of the main NinjaTrader window turns green and the Market Analyzer window I have open loads new data. The two charts I have also populate with the latest data. Then, as soon as this data is loaded, the connection to the Barchart feed is lost and the connection status indicator turns red. From this point, I get no live data either in the charts or Market Analyzer.

In order to get refreshed data, I have to disconnect from Barchart and reconnect.

I am running Kaspersky Internet Security and have checked all settings and see no application restrictions. I have marked NinjaTrader as a trusted application and no IP addresses are blocked.

Does anyone have ideas as to what is going on?

I'm running Ninja in simulation mode (i.e., the license type is Simulation and the key ends with ... 705D-1952).

    Hello w_trader,

    Thank you for your post,

Because you're able to get data when connected, the issue seems to be with BarChart not being able to reconnect.

When the connection turns red, do you receive an error on screen? Are there errors on the Log tab of the Control Center? If so, what do these errors report?

When you disconnect / reconnect, is the connection always accepted right away, or does it fail?

We look forward to assisting further.

      Hello Eric,

When the connection turns red, there is no error that shows on screen.

Hi. I am a Barchart user that successfully connects to Barchart every day on NT 8.0.4 with no issues. I primarily draw on equity index, and futures contracts. Here's what my log looks like when I connect.

There are only three things I noticed in your log file that you may want to investigate.

        1. For some reason your license is also being verified at a secondary server. Mine is not. You may want to email Barchart support and see if that is needed.

        2. Your workspace names seem cryptic in the log files. My workspaces have names like "Research", or "Working" with no special characters which are easily readable in the log file. Yours seem to have names like "C" or "00"? Is that right? Or the workspace names are being abended in log file? You may want to check that no special characters (&, /, ?, etc.) are interfering with opening and closing workspaces, since that is part of the process.

        3. Because I think each of the first two concerns may be the lesser of the evils, most importantly note that you losing connection to the NinjaTrader Information Server before you lose the connection to Barchart.

2017-02-10 17:23:48:102 lose connection to NinjaTrader Information Server.

2017-02-10 17:23:57:717 lose connection to Barchart - almost eight seconds later.

If the problem was on the Barchart side, one would think the Barchart disconnection loss would occur first. But, it doesn't, it occurs after.

Well, those are some thoughts, anyway. Hope it helps.

          Joe,

          Thanks for the reply.

When I start NinjaTrader, it never actually verifies the NT license. Instead, the following message appears:
NinjaTrader is having problems connecting to its’ license servers. Possible problems are a) Your firewall software is enabled and you have not authorized NinjaTrader to access the internet b) Your internet service provider is having service problems or both license servers are down. Please ensure that your firewall software is not blocking NinjaTrader and try again in a few minutes.
This probably explains why your log shows the verification of the NT license only at the primary NT server:
2017-02-10 20:44:24:759|1|4|Verifying license at primary server...
And acknowledgement of the license type:
          2017-02-10 20:44:24:885|1|4|Type=Simulation State=Verified Start Date=12/31/2004 End Date=11/30/2099
The log from my end shows attempted verification at both primary and secondary NT servers and notably it never gets the acknowledgement of the license type.
2017-02-10 17:22:57:318|1|4|Verifying license at primary server...
2017-02-10 17:23:13:120|1|4|Verifying license at secondary server...

Regarding the workspace names… the workspace names are indeed “00” and “C”.

After watching the log tab while NT is running, I can shed some more light on the situation:
First, the log reports: Connection is lost to the NinjaTrader Information Server: is-us-002.ninjatrader.com
The status indicator on the main NT window remains green
Then, the log reports: MyBarChart: Primary connection=Connection lost, Price feed=Connection lost
At which point the status indicator turns red

I should have mentioned this earlier, but forgot: After the connection to Barchart is lost, I can still pull historical data from Barchart. For instance, despite the lost connection, I can pull up 10-minute historical data for IBKR going back more than 20 days. This data was not previously in the database, so I know it's being pulled from Barchart. This is also the case during market hours. Although the live market data is not refreshed, I can still pull up a new historical data.

It seems that the connection to the NinjaTrader Information Server is not required to get data.

A couple of quick things to check: 1) are you 'only' intending to use the Sim account, and not real trading at this point? I noticed we do have the same sim key ending; 2) did you get your NinjaTrader.Install file directly from the NinjaTrader web-site, and not use a copy of the program copied over from another computer or file? I have noticed that the license doesn't register properly when a file is copied over from another computer. That happened to me when I tried to "get lazy" once. 3) Where did these workspaces come from? Are they new workspaces? Or were they 'restored' from a previous NT back-up? I have seen some problems with people trying to do the latter. A suggestion there would be to try a new install - directly from the website - and try creating one or two new workspaces from scratch with 6 - 8 character names, without numerals or special characters in them. To avoid losing your previous work, you could move or rename your previous NT8 configuration files. But, you need to be sure the new install does not have access to the previous configuration files (usually in /user/documents/NinjaTrader8 folder) or all of the previous work will be copied into the install - which is what we'd try to avoid for that test.

Anyway, the problem based on your latest description does sound like it's between your computer and Ninja, and not between your computer and Barchart : just my read on it.

Joe, you're certainly right about it being a problem between my computer and Ninja.

I tried a connection using a mobile internet stick. By using the connection I was able to get the license verified on the NT server.

Since then, I've reset my landline internet router and am now able to also get the license verified on the NT server.

Unfortunately, I'm still having problems keeping the Barchart connection active. Also, I cannot connect to the Kinetick EOD servers...

Hopefully a tech at Ninja might be able to shed some light on what the next step would be to get this sorted out.

                Hello,

                Thank you for the updates.

At this point I would like to delve in a bit further so we may perform some in depth tests.

Please send me your log and trace files so that I may look into what occurred.

You can do this by going to the Control Center-> Help-> Mail to Platform Support.

Ensuring 'Log and Trace Files' is checked will include these files. This is checked by default.

                  Hello w_trader

Have you been able to find the culprit and fix the barchart datafeed disconnection issue? I'm trying to use barchart data feed and I've got a huge disconnecting issues problem since I've took this datafeed.

I've used fxcm datafeed without any disconnecting issues and I've used kinetick too a month ago for the last 2-3 years without such disconnecting issues. I have the complete Ninjatrader license with no problem on that side.

Does many other people are using barchart datafeed on NT8 without problems or having found the solution to the disconnection problem?

A side question. Where did you subscribe to Barchart? Although technically we have an interface, this is primarily to support legacy clients from many years ago.

                      Hello Ray,

I've suscribed directly from the barchart website. Its weird because the 4 others data feed i have and had never done such disconnections and its been 4 years I'm using NT7-8 actively.

What versions of NinjaTrader are you using? This can be found under Help -> About (Example: 7.0.1000.X or 8.0.X.0)

Does the issue happen in both NinjaTrader 7 and NinjaTrader 8? or just one? If the latter, which one?

Are you attempting to connect to Barchart from both platforms simutlaneously? Or just one at a time?

When you connect in NinjaTrader, are you accessing your Barchart account in any other way?
