Trading futures in both directions at the same time

Hi there,

I'd like to confirm how it would work if I was trading a futures contract like CL, and wanted to trade in both directions. For example, if I open a short, anticipating that oil will go down in the longer timeframe, but in the meanwhile wanted to open a long to do a trade for a shorter timeframe.

If say I had the one short open, and I wanted to open a long rather than covering that short, is that possible and how would I do that? If so, and I did that, say I wanted to sell the long and not open another short, I mean how does NT know what my intentions are?

Hello enzo_,

You would need two accounts for this.

Your broker will only allow for one position per account per instrument.

Orders are accepted as first in first out.

With NinjaTrader 8, you can make multiple Sim accounts to practice this on. Right-click the grid within the Accounts tab of the Control Center -> Select 'Add Simulation Account'
