Daily Chart Errors Screwing Me Up

When trading Forex, I keep noticing that the Daily chart price is quite often a different figure than all my other charts (15 minute chart, 5 minute chart, etc.).

And when this happens, I later see that the Daily chart had the same price figure the whole time, it never changed, while all the other charts were updating their figures as the price moved.

Tonight this messed me up in a big way twice, when I thought price had broken beyond Yesterday's High/Low, and entered trades as a result, but then after getting stopped out on both of them I saw that the Daily chart price was completely wrong.

    Screenshots attached.

What do I need to do to get the Daily chart to print the correct figures?

    Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

To test, please reset your instruments, this will ensure that the internal setting for the instruments are up-to-date with server specifications: To reset your instruments please follow the steps below.

    - First, disconnect from any data providers by navigating to the Control Center > Connections menu, and left-click on “disconnect” that appears to the right when hovering your mouse over any active connection
    - Next, reset your instruments by navigating to the Control Center > Tools > Database Management
    - In the Database Management window, under the “Update instruments” section, ensure that “General properties”, "Futures expiries" and “Symbol mappings” options are checked and then click Update
    - Lastly, restart NinjaTrader for the changes to occur.

Let me know if you see the same after taking these steps.

      Hi Eric,

I followed the steps you gave and then restarted NT8, but the problem remains.

The Daily chart price does not move.

        NT8 Data Series Screenshot

Attached is a screenshot of my Data Series settings.

I was told awhile back by someone who uses NT8 that it is best to use minutes, instead of days, for the Daily chart. What is your opinion of that?

And if I should set it to be based on minutes, how many minutes should I set it to?

I just found the settings that work.

In the Data Series window, instead of using Days, set it to use Minutes (for Type).

Then set the Value to be 1440 and the Days to Load to 120.

              Thank you for your reply,

Glad to see you were able to resolve the issue. We often suggest the 1440-minute charts due to the Daily charts using the session information via the data provider, which loading the minute chart gets around.

Let us know if we may assist further.

                Hi Eric,

                Thanks for the info.

What about the weekly and monthly charts? If they are used together with intraday minute based charts for long-term support/resistance areas, do they create the same problem as the daily chart does?
