What is the Best Approach for Developing Robotic Strategies

This is more of a philosophical question.

In learning how to put a detailed Strategy together that encompasses Position Sizing, Entry/Exit rules, Stop rules, Exit from winning positions, etc using Strategy Builder, it occurred to me that it's almost easier to write the code from scratch than go through SB to get the job done. The other approach is to use SB to generate a first level strategy and then take the code generated to create a more robust detailed strategy. I'd really like to hear from traders who have developed sophisticated strategies what they think the best approach is for developing a Robotic/Expert Advisor driven auto-trading strategy.

    1. Get quick-and-dirty code that assumes well-behaved input.
    2. Add error-handling and other modifications.
