Does entering short close out the existing long?

Hi guys, still can't seem to find an answer, hoping you can help.

I have an strategy that I want to always be long or short in.

If I enter a long on the cross above the MA (for example), will this long position automatically close out when I enter a short on the cross below the MA?

    Thanks!

      Hello trader14,

      Thanks for your post.

Yes. If you apply the strategy SampleMACrossover and look at its code, it does not have any exit conditions only EnterLong() and EnterShort(). When you apply the strategy, look at the orders on the chart, you will see two orders at each point, one that says "Close Position" and the second one that says buy or sell. The "Close Position" order is automatically generated by any entry order in the opposite direction of the current position.

You can easily confirm and observe this by applying and enabling the SampleMACrossover on a live instrument in your sim101 account and we encourage you to test your scenario/questions.
