    SetStopLoss() and ExitLong()

    Hello,

    On the above page for ExitLong(), it states the following:
    • If you do not specify a "fromEntrySignal" parameter the entire position is exited rendering your strategy flat
    If I use a SetStopLoss("Entry Long", CalculationMode.Price, someValue, false) for the initial stop and then use an ExitLong("Entry Long") for a trail stop, is the SetStopLoss() order cancelled upon execution of the ExitLong() order or is it necessary to CancelOrder() the SetStopLoss?

    Thanks

    Hello Epistemophilic,

    Thanks for your post.

    Yes, the Exit method will close the position and the stop loss order will be cancelled.

    You may set up a test strategy and observe this with the Playback Connection or when using the Simulated Data Feed and a chart with the Trading Hours template set to Default 24/7. (This will allow using the Simulated Data Feed after market hours for testing.)

    Playback - https://ninjatrader.com/support/help...connection.htm

    You can also consider creating a test strategy in the Strategy Builder with conditions that check if Misc > Current State is State.Realtime so your logic is skipped with historical processing and is only processed with realtime data.

    We look forward to assisting.

      Hello,

      In theory calling ExitLong or ExitShort should cancel the stop orders automatically, but if the stop is close to the exit position, you'll have plenty of problems with the stop order getting filled while the exit gives you an overfill.

      The "automatic" managed order system would only work in cases where your stops are far away from current bid/ask. Otherwise, you need to set timers and monitor orders manually to exit a position before a stop or target is hit.
