Difference of Graphics between NT7 and NT8

Hello NT team

when trying to move a strategy from NT7 to NT8, I noticed differences between the charts in these 2 versions. For instance a 6 LineBreaks 1 second EURUSD from 1st Jan 2016 to now will show different shapes in NT7 and NT8. Therefore that will
have big impacts on the trades that are generated in NT7 vs NT8 and makes the comparison difficult.

What might be the reasons behind the charts differences between NT7 and NT8?
Is there a way of having consistent graphics between the 2 versions?

Hello jakjak74, and thank you for your questions. While we can not know why this is occurring without code samples from NinjaTrader 7 and 8, generally speaking we can review the code breaking changes page here for most cases where NT7 and NT8 differ.

While it is true that NT8 uses WPF and DirectX for graphics processing, these should not affect calculations based on time and price such as those you are mentioning. Some indicators have changed in functionality between versions to better reflect common industry expectations between platforms that were not present in NT7. These indicator changes are the most likely cause of any behavior change between versions.

Thanks Jessica. Even without writing any code, I do see these differences. For example just looking at 1min AUDJPY (candle bars) since 5th Jan 2016 I see visually differences from the begining. The candle bars haven't been changed between the 2 versions of NT, have they? pse see attached pictures. Btw NT7 seems to be more precise.

I have the same FXCM account number for these graphics. The only difference is 2 different license keys for NT7 and NT8. I don' t think this is the explanation though.


Any idea about these different candle graphics?

This information comes in from your data feed provider; NT7 and NT8 displaying candles should not differ like this. Please ensure that both NT7 and NT8 are using NinjaTrader for their historical data servers. You can do this in NT7 via Tools -> Account Connections -> FXCM -> Change, then follow the instructions in the wizard for selecting NInjaTrader's historical data servers. In NT8, you can do this through Connections -> Configure -> Configured -> FXCM -> Properties -> Settings -> check NinjaTrader historical data server -> click OK.

Once we have ensured both NT7 and NT8 are using the same HDS, please then send copies of both your NT7 and NT8 workspaces to platformsupport[at]ninjatrader[dot]com, referencing Attn:NinjaTrader_JessicaP and 1639174 in the subject line of your e-mail.

Thanks Jessica for the link. A difference of behaviour, does it mean NT7 is correct and not NT8 or the opposite?
What about the differences in the charts obtained with NT7 and NT8 when using candles?

The differences were caused by NinjaScript code which we are reviewing. If you load a candle type such as 10 second candles, you will observe NT7 and NT8 perform similarly.
