    Chart Horizontal Scale Character.....

I use equidistant false charts exclusivly....each morning after the charts have been running all night I must go through all of the charts one by one and reset the chart period to get the charts looking reasonably normal....screen shots before and after....1 and 2 below....

And then often throughout the day one must to reset the chart period again and again when the horizontal scale often gets out of whack....simply just one of the most annoying things about NT charts....

    Thanks...

    Hello,

Can you please clarify what steps you are taking to reset the charts? Are you changing the interval to another and then back?

If you click on drag on the scale of the time axis, are you able to correct these charts?

To reset I type the chart period and type of chart....like 5s for a 5 second chart...(or just load your template for the chart, if you have one....this will also reset the scale)
Yes...you can click and drag the scale but the visual aspects of the tick marks at each level is then still often messed up and a reset of the chart will clean this up so that the chart looks normal...and often after a fast move in tick charts a reset of the chart will clean things up as well....other charting programs do not have these problems....the problem is you are using absolute numbers of chart bars to set the horizontal scale....

Sometimes dragging will not work....you will sometimes not be able to compress as much as wished normally by dragging....then a reset will then enable to one drag to a more compressed scale....this can happen as the chart moves between different areas of tick activity during the day and the horizontal scale constantly changes ....

Try this out....run a few charts ...tick and second equidistant false ....overnight....then reset and you will see the difference in scale and appearance...

Scaling time in equidistant false charts might be better done in pixels per bar....

      Thanks...

        Alfred,

Can you please send me your workspace so I can test this on my end? Please email support[at]ninjatrader[dot]com with 'Attn Matthew' in the subject line and a reference to this thread.

To save a copy of your workspace, please go to File--> Workspace--> Save "Workspace As..." and Save this workspace with the name "Support".

You will find your workspace under (My) Documents\NinjaTrader 7\workspaces\Support.xml

Please attach this workspace XML document to the email and I can look into this further.

          Another example...

Here is another example of change in scale after a reset...
Screen shot 1 has been running overnight....screen shot 2 is a reset...
a totally different time scale now on screen shot 2. You want to be able to have a stable time scale and not be continually fussing with resets. Scaling time in pixels would enable this.

          Thanks...

            And another example....

Here is a tick chart that has been running for around an hour...
Screen shot 1 is initial view....screen shot 2 has been dragged to expand the view to current chart action...note the odd chart appearance...screen shot 3 is a reset....note how clean the chart looks now, and with a totally different time scale than before....again....you want clean charts with a stable time scale.....screen shot 4 shows set up of an indicator on this chart. You do not want time scales and the chart appearance to be continually changing throughout the day....

Something else to consider...currently one cannot plot graphic objects to or from chart points in time where there may be no actual data point on the chart. Scaling in pixels would enable one to plot from or to any chart point in time.

            Thanks....

              Alfred,

Thank you for reporting - we can reproduce these reports, however there is nothing that can currently be done. Development is aware of this behavior from a case you reported before, however I do not have an update on when this will be improved.

                One possible solution...

Playing around with charts a bit in this area....if you set a hidden first data series period longer than the data you want to actually display in the same panel....in the screen shots below the first series is 4 seconds (colored transparent) and the second series is 21 tick....this seems to solve the problem of erratic horizontal scaling as one may include thin data areas (overnight etc)...the horizontal scale seems consistent in all cases when the chart is set up in this manner....

Perhaps the hidden first data series should be set so that there would be some data in every bar even in thin areas...

One problem with this method of setting up chart data is the max compression can be somewhat less than would be seen without the hidden longer first data series....

                Thanks....

Is this what you are trying to do?

                      New technique chart examples....

Here are some sequential chart examples from today showing a hidden longer term data stream (3 seconds) and a visible 13 tick chart....you can see the same 1/2 hour + time on all charts...and the chart did not have to be refreshed at the open to get the tick marks looking ok....this technique can apparently give one horizontal stability (if desired) of time displayed as you move between different areas of tick density ....

                      Thanks....
