Request new database engine for Ninja 8

I request that the database used in NinjaTrader be ported from MS SQL Server Compact 3.5 to MS SQL Server 2012 LocalDB.

    Benefits:

    1) LocalDB is accessible through ODBC

    2) Compact uses OLEDB for data access. This is not going to be supported by MS at some point in the future.

    3) Though small, LocalDB is based on an enterprise level stable databases. Standard MS SQL Server language and tools can be used with LocalDB.

    4) Compact is a software port of a database intended for small hand held devices. This in itself makes it almost obsolete. It does not have a rich set of data types, nor the full SQL language, nor stored procedures.

    5) LocalDB is still a stand alone database, it has a small footprint, and does not run as a system service like its bigger brothers

    Hello Turtle Trader,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

I will forward this to our Development team for consideration in the next major release of NinjaTrader.

I doubt there is any OLEDB code in NT7. I'm sure NT7 will be using ADO.NET You can already write ADO.NET code to access your own DB on SQL Compact (CE), just as you can for LocalDB.

CE has a much smaller footprint than LocalDB, and also does not run as a service.

LocalDB does not run as a service

The normal SQL Server runs a service, but not LocalDB

yes, but I don't want to access the SDF from NT7 C# code, but from an the database painter in enterprise level software development system...Powerbuilder by Sybase now SAP. That software can access Oracle, SQL Server, all those, but not easily SQL Compact.

I can do it in XP with a registry cludge but not NT8.

Anyway, I have shelved this project...
